A generation ago, with print sales being counted in their hundreds of thousands the Daily Record wouldn’t dream of being disloyal to a Rangers manager.
There would be a disastrous backlash from their Army of Readers with the pipeline of feel good stories from Dave Murray turned off as their rivals stayed on message.
In 2024 things are a bit different, the Record is in almost the same state of terminal decline as their near neighbours at Ibrox with desperate measures having to be taken.
The Hotline has been the backbone of Record Sport for generations, the place where cranks could share their madcap views but even that has been overtaken by social media for sharing views from the extreme.
Recently the Record has taken The Hotline online with comments share with one of the remaining football reporters at the sinking Glasgow publisher.
Desperate for attention Tuesday’s Hotline was effectively an all out attack on Clement with Keith Jackson claiming that Micky Beale had a more defined style of play than his Belgian successor!
When the top man at the Record is airing those sort of views Clement should take heed that it will require more than flattering statistics to deflect from any defeats suffered in the next month.
The Record will have hundreds of comments to choose from but selected the three below to set the tone before passing to Jackson for his reaction.
Under Murray there would have been serious repercussions for any media outlet that was sounding like an angry message board.
With no CEO and a caretaker Chairman there is a complete leadership breakdown at Ibrox that allows once favoured media outlets to be so openly hostile to the man in the Dugout of Dignity.
Even though just over 1,300 views had been recorded on You Tube a day after publication the fact that the Record is sharing content of this nature is ominous for the man hailed as A Proper Football Manager for the first four months of his tenure.
Clement currently has a 10 day reprieve from scrutiny but starting at Kilmarnock on October 20 his next defeat could be his last.

Used to be full of guys called Billy and everyday the headline was having a pop at Celtic
I don’t think That Hotline thing was in The Scummy the last time that I read it !
Thin Diesel should probably order the taxi now, he doesn’t want to be standing about in the street waiting too long! The way results and performances are going over there it’s not going to be guysing or even trick or treating this October – it’ll be more like Devil’s Night in Detroit for fans of ‘The Crow’!
