Phil Clement has sent a not so subtle reminder to angry bears about their previous club going into liquidation.

In season 2011/12 under the disastrous leadership of Ally McCoist Rangers fell behind Celtic in the title race on December 27 then went into administration on February 14.

McCoist’s side was spending far more on wages than they could afford, facing that scenario last season Sevco Chairman John Bennet imposed austerity before walking away.

Clement was given the sweetener of an extended contract on increased terms but 10 matches into the SPFL campaign his side is trailing nine points behind joint leaders Celtic and Aberdeen.

Speaking after his own future after his side’s third SPFL defeat of the season Clement said:

It’s not about me, it’s about the club. This was a big rebuild and you see the numbers that came out from the club this week.

We had to cut the wages, we had to make a younger squad and that was a club decision.

We have to stick behind that because it’s the only way to stay healthy and sustainable.

Nobody wants to go back to the situation of 12 years ago. It’s a harder job when you can’t spend money and get experienced players but I totally went into the challenge and I am convinced that we can have a good future at the club.

With no Chairman, CEO or obvious successor it seems certain that Clement will soldier on with fans ready to voice their anger at Sunday’s League Cup semi-final against Motherwell at Hampden.

Next Thursday the Ibrox Tribute Act are away to Olympiakos in the Europa League before hosting Hearts at home in the final match before the November international break.

Clement interview 9 minutes 30 seconds.

As a refugee from old media the rolling news cycle holds so much appeal. Great to be independently breaking news and staying on top of breaking news.

It’s an unusual situation – a manager remaining in post for no reason other than that there isn’t anyone in the building with the authority to sack him…. or willing to pay a portion of the settlement he will contractually be entitled to! So on he gloriously bungles…..

Sir Alex bring him home was his real home not Pittodrie?

Firstly , who will make the decision to unload big Pip ,as there is no Chairman or CEO ? The board in Ibroxland is an unparalleled mess and don’t have 2 copper pennies to rub together , never mind paying the guy his financial due when it eventually happens ! Secondly I’m really surprised that Chancellor Reeves did not bail theRangers out of its misery in yesterday’s budget ? A sympathetic gesture of financial backing from the Government…..

So, the question has to be asked: “…what is Gilligan doing, Tom?!” 🙂

Worst case he brings in an interim / turnaround CEO specialist for a year – or two?

RIFC is paralysed / in limbo until that appointment is made.
