Nils Koppen has defended the decision to commit £4m and a five year contract on Oscar Cortes.
The Ibrox transfer guru was interviewed by the Rangers Review to whitewash over the club’s disastrous transfer activities under Phil Clement, both incoming and outgoing.
Less than £1m was raised during the summer from selling Todd Cantwell and Scott Wright while scarce funds were thrown away on Hamza Igamane and Cortes leaving other key positions unfilled.
Cortes played 317 minutes last season over six appearances on loan from Lens with his season ending with an injury at Kilmarnock in February.
For reasons unknown another loan was taken out on the 20-year-old Colombian with an obligation to buy next summer.
Incredibly Cortes has only played 40 minutes of first team football for Lens over four appearances but it seems that Koppen has spotted something in the winger that has evaded everyone else.
The Ibrox star spotter told the Rangers Review:
Oscar came in with a blank injury record. No injuries, no scans, everything was perfect. We’re looking into it as a club. I’m still confident in the move to bring him here. We signed him on a five-year deal and still believe in his potential over a longer period.
In the same manner of prime Daily Record under the leadership of James Traynor there was no follow up question with that unconvincing answer accepted as gospel.
With funds tight and the squad stretched it seems an incredible extravagance to have committed £4m on a 20-year-old from South America, over four appearances this season Cortes has played 95 minutes of football and is currently out injured after suffering a knock in training.
Should there be a big reduction in International fixtures?
No, I enjoy them, good to get regular breaks
Yes, stop start, stop start season is ridiculous

A Cop out by Cop in !
When the enemy is making a cunt of things, that’s the time to say nothing.
Ask Peter Lawwell, he’s made a cunt of things for decades now by saying nothing, it just happens that his timing is consistently wrong! The prick!
