Daizen Maeda was among those congratulating Oh Hyeon-gyu following his first ever international goal as South Korea won 2-0 away to Jordan.

For 18 months the duo were Celtic team-mates but during the summer the young striker moved to Genk after the door to first team appearances was closed by the arrival of Adam Idah.

Oh had a decent scoring record at Celtic in terms of minutes per goal, scoring every 100 minutes according to Soccerway, but following Giorgos Giakoumakis he didn’t provide the same level of competition to Kyogo Furuhashi.

Joining Celtic in January 2023 following a trip to the World Cup Finals in Qatar where he wasn’t officially in the South Korea squad was a tough task that Oh, only 21 at the time never quite answered.

Oh has scored three goals from eight appearances off the bench for Genk totalling 105 minutes of action, last night he came on in the 51st minute and scored South Korea’s second goal 17 minutes later.

Next up for Oh is a home match against Iraq on Tuesday where he will be looking to build on his progress against Jordan.
