Fresh from striking a deal to bring Ianis Hagi back into the first team picture Phil Clement is being urged to follow suit with Alex Lowry.

Two and a half years on from his stunning debut against Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup the Murray Park starlet found himself facing the same opponents again last night in a friendly match staged at the club training ground.

Lowry scored twice, once from the penalty spot to earn Malky Thompson’s young stars a 2-2 draw which was enough to kick off calls on social media to get Lowry restored to the first team squad.

After a season and a half being branded the next best thing to come out of Murray Park, Lowry was sent on loan to Hearts for what was expected to be his breakout season.

Steven Naismith thought otherwise, after starting four SPFL matches the loan was cut short with the midfielder returned to Murray Park to impress Phil Clement after being sidelined by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Micky Beale.

With Hagi suspended for the next two SPFL matches and left out of the Europa League squad the door is open to young Lowry but he is likely to remain behind Tom Lawrence and Kieran Dowell for a first team place.
