Ruthlessly exploited- Chris Sutton’s brutal verdict as Celtic are humiliated

Chris Sutton didn’t hold back as he watched Celtic humiliated by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

An opening day win over Slovan Bratislava gave Celtic a sense of optimism going to Germany but that was misplaced as the German side tore their visitors apart.

In truth the final scoreline could have been much worse, Kasper Schmeichel pulled off a couple of one-on-one saves with the 5-1 half-time score a warning that the hoops were in serious trouble.

Treating the Champions League finalists in the same way that you’d take on Falkirk or St Johnstone proved badly mistaken, with Dortmund dominating possession the Celtic defence was left badly exposed.

At no time did Celtic try to shut up shop, at half time two like for like changes were made with no material difference in the outcome.

Dortmund did ease up after the break, scoring in the 66th and 79th minutes as Celtic avoided a record European defeat.

Rodgers will have some explaining to do, in three weeks time they face opposition of a similar standard when they travel to Bergamo to take on the Europa League winners, Atalanta.

Long way to go to get to this level. Need to spend money on Quality Players, not paying a little on projects for later profit.I said last season that we need to spend “big” money on 2 experienced full backs and an experienced centre back. Only one change at the back, with a guy who hasn’t played many games for us. Too many “ordinary” players? Can’t imagine we gave away Iwata for next to nothing. He could have done a job tonight instead of throwing young boys into the fire at this level

Sick to the stomach of it now, same merry go round every season thinking we look a decent side and then get humiliated in Europe. Rangers are a mess because they overspend on the team, we are a mess because we underspend, and are run as a profit making PLC. We cannot blame playing in the SPFL when Rangers recently reached a final.

It seems that all that matters to Celtic FC is to be slightly better than Rangers. That is the summit of our ambition and purpose. Heartbreaking. I think our Japanese players may think they have been here long enough after tonight and who could blame them

Who in the fuck are ‘Rangers’ ?

I don’t know any ‘Rangers’ that Celtic compete with –

And The Scottish Cup ain’t started for Celtic yet so it canny be Brora, Cove or Berwick Rangers who are actual Rangers !

      • Dan says:

What the hell do you want “the Rangers” ? Hating the other team more than you love your own team is not productive

“The Rangers” would be just fine Dan…

That’s what Teletext had them down as for their first ever game on 29th July 2012 as until The bent Regan and his corrupt cohorts at The SFA granted them their ‘conditional’ ahem… ‘licence’

As of today Sevco / The ‘Rangers’ are 12 years and 65 days old…

We must never let them nor The Scummy’s of The Scummy Scottish Football Media ever forget that !

I’m surprised that a manager of Brendan Rodgers experience led his team to the slaughter by playing high press tactics against a team of Dortmund’s calibre. Surely it must have occurred to him after the 3rd goal that tactics had to be altered, yet he did nothing. Was it Einstein who said that the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?

Anyway, Rodgers’ tactics were infantile and the team performance was juvenile. What a humiliation that was in front of the whole world. My fear now is that this drubbing will affect the team spirit, realising just how poor they are at elite level.

I agree with your comments on BR. He only sets them up to play his way there is no other tactics involved. To be fair, we have always been an attacking team to go defensively we might have been gubbed 10-1.

Looked like rabbits caught in the headlights tonight kind of reminded of the Scotland v Germany game. We were very poor in our overall game. Sitting back in awe rather than getting on top of them. Why did we bring players into the team to sit on the bench when they should clearly be starting games like these. Taylor for instance, shipped 2 goals, Bernando another and as for captain fantastic less said the better. I am so glad we now have a different set up for the CL as we just equalled there score as the worst team ever. FFS

Taylor needs to remember hes a fckn left back no a fckn roam about. mcgregir tries to take hold of a mid that’s aw or the place. kyogo make the rund but no cnt gives him the Baw. to much bad passes. easy play is on but dont play it.ffckn usual pish

  • Amcq14 says:

When you take a few paracetamols in the morning ask me the same question Stevie. There is no disputing what we all see in front of our own eyes .

Opinions, we all have them but we are always celtic supporters.
