Al-Ettifaq fans have called for Steven Gerrard to resign after his side suffered a shock exit from the Saudi Cup at the hands of a second-division team on Wednesday night.
Gerrard is 16 months into his £15.2m-a-year contract at Al-Ettifaq, and led the club to sixth place in the Saudi Pro League last season.
But they are down in 10th place this term having failed to register a league win since September 14, and slumped to a new low on Wednesday when they were beaten 3-1 by lower league outfit Al-Jabalain to exit the King Cup at the last-16 stage.
Gerrard decided to start with former Celtic and Lyon forward Moussa Dembele on the bench and his team selection backfired disastrously. Gerrard’s tactics have left fans perplexed, with some fearing the Englishman could drag Al-Ettifaq down even further if he remains in charge.
Following last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Al Feiha, a fan posted on social media: ‘By God, Gerrard is making fun of himself. I have never seen a failed coach who has a lot of excellent names and doesn’t know how to employ them properly.
After being sacked in the Saudi Pro League Gerrard knows that managerial offers in England are likely to be thin on the ground, a phone call to Frank Lampard should confirm that while Wayne Rooney scrapes around at Birmingham and Plymouth trying to find a new career.
At Ibrox he would be guaranteed short term adulation but up against Brendan Rodgers in his second season at Celtic things could quickly turn sour with the hoops on course to claim the fake title of World’s Most Successful club before Christmas.
Whoever is in charge at Ibrox when that happens will forever be tarnished, with an Ibrox return for Micky Beale a complete No-No Livingston boss Davie Martindale is a strong contender for the title of The Brains Behind Gerrard if the former England skipper opts to return to Scottish football.

I predict skelfs.
Another squirrel story again, they done the same thing the other day after posting the accounts out at a loss, with a follow up story of a billionaire on the board ready to invest heavily.
Ey ..de doo do do …do don’ de do ! De doo ..de fookin’ doo
You can’t sew the balls back on a gelding.
Yes, yes, yes, bring him back, he hasn’t a clue about management.
For those that forgot, under Gerrard they “won”(stole) their one and only title when there was no one there to see it ie tremendous help from the refs and the SFA, Celtic were getting stick left and right for the slightest infraction when Sevco were sending the tests to Belfast, no doubt for stringent analysis (HA!), Sevco did not receive one red card that season when there were many instances where red should’ve been shown, Sevco never conceded one penalty again where there were plenty of reasons to whilst at the same time reached double figures for penalties awarded, strangely none in Europe!!!!! Just saying!
Oh yes get the golden boy back, 9 points behind two teams with little if any money to spend in January, I’m sure he’ll jump at it hahahahahaha
Fair play: £15M a year – and tax free – for a rather limited manager.
Gerrard does have some smart people around him.
And the bears still don’t get it:
Clement is the peak of their managerial choices currently.
That choice goes downhill – rapidly and cheaply – after Clement gets punted.
TheRangers certainly could bring back multi millionaire – Steven Gerrard ! The main reason I suspect , being that he would ‘ invest in a soft loan ‘ ..a great source to buy millions and millions of confetti shares . Big Gerro is a bit of a thicko , granted , but he’s not that thick …is he ?
To slightly misquote Mr Joseph Kevin Keegan, I would love it, love it if they brought him back! The best term I could use to describe Slippy as a football manager is ‘fraud’ – after flopping badly at Villa he is now circling the drain in the Middle East. Were he a sensible guy, he’d give Sevco a polite ‘thanks but no’ and settle for a cushy number on the sofa at Sky or the BBC rather than doing himself any further reputational damage by getting completely taken to school by Brendan Rodgers, but we know from his largely unsuccessful first spell at iBrox that he certainly ain’t lacking anything in the ego department…..
