Image for Clement reveals extent of new injury blow

Tom Lawrence will be out of action for ‘four to six weeks’ according to Phil Clement.

The midfielder injured himself taking a shot at goal against Motherwell at Hampden and had to be substituted by Mohamed Diomande.

Lawrence has been dogged by injury since signing a bumper deal at Ibrox as a free agent after helping Derby County to relegation from The Championship.

Since that move in July 2022 the Welshman has only started 23 SPFL matches but has chipped in with crucial goals in the 1-0 wins over Dundee United and Hibs. Connor Barron and Nicky Raskin have yet to score.

Previewing tonight’s match away to Olympiakos Clement told the Daily Record:

Tom Lawrence hasn’t travelled, he got injured at the weekend and will be out for several weeks. He has been important for the team but it gives opportunities for other players to prove themselves.

Injuries are always going to happen in football and we are trying to make positive changes to reduce as many as possible. Ridvan Yilmaz is back in training, and so is Rabbi Matondo, so this is getting better.

With Danilo and Ianis Hagi left out of the Europa League squad Clement will be short on numbers for tonight’s match against last season’s winners of the UEFA Conference.

With Nice and Spurs to be played before the League Cup Final against Celtic on December 15 Clement’s exciting young squad are in for some very testing times.

James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers are both fit and available for tonight’s match.
