Dead duck- only a stay of execution for Clement with Hampden win

Phil Clement failed to win around any of his critics despite a 2-1 Hampden win over Motherwell to reach the final of the League Cup.

Whether the Belgian Beale will still be manager for that match against Celtic remains in doubt with just 29,000 loyal bears inside the National Stadium for the semi-final win.

After Andy Halliday had apologised for opening the scoring the Union Bears unfurled a banner announcing PARK AND CO. TIME TO GO.

If the Union Bears can repay the £10m loan that Douglas Park provided soon after Dave King quit as Chairman in March 2020 they will probably find the motoring tycoon keen to negotiate for the sale of his near worthless shares.

On the park Clement’s most popular move was to substitute Cyriel Dessers and James Tavernier midway through the first half which left the question of why he had started the game with the heavily criticised duo on his team sheet.

A late deflection sealed victory in yesterday’s match but there wasn’t much to celebrate among the players or fans who hung around for the final whistle.

Tom Lawrence picked up a first half injury which will probably rule him out of Thursday’s Europa League tie away to Olympiakos, with Danilo and Ianis Hagi left out of the squad for that competition Clement will have to stretch his squad for that fixture which is followed by a visit to Ibrox from Hearts.

Aberdeen are at home to Dundee on Saturday which gives Jimmy Thelin’s squad the chance to go 12 points ahead of the toiling Tribute Act.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Caught the second half. It was like watching the last game of the season between the 7th and 8th placed SPFL teams. Dull drudgery.

The” football “was abysmal from both sets of hammer throwers….God help them in the final.

I’m still amused by the stupidity of the union brats and their ‘Park and Co – Time to go’ caper. They must even now believe that a billionaire bear with wealth off the radar, who has been doing a pretty good job of staying far from public view over the last two decades, is about to waltz through the front door of iBrox and banish these tupenny ha’penny businessmen (who have ploughed in their personal fortunes to keep the club running) make everything alright and above all ‘stoap sellick’…..

Newsflash: that isn’t going to happen, Billy.
If you chase these folk out the building the best you’d get is King Dave and some US asset strippers promising you the earth but buying the club with your money instead of theirs then renting you back your own stadium which will by then be called the Kleenex Arena. Be careful what you wish for – the current board could plunge you into administration at the drop of a hat by withdrawing their loans.

Sorry Joe, that’s wasn’t meant to be a reply to your comment, it was meant to be a post in its own right! D’Oh!

Kleenex? Andrex fits better at the shithole that is ayebrokes

    • Captain Swing says:

I did swither between Kleenex and Andrex but went for Kleenex due to its association with greetin’ and rippin’ the heid aff it – more fitting for the average Sevco enthusiast!
