There was a feeling of Deja Vu about Liam Donnelly’s premeditated attack on Peter Schmeichel late on in Celtic’s 2-0 win away to Kilmarnock.
For good measure Don Robertson was lurking in the background, a referee notorious for allowing opponents to leave something on Celtic players with the guarantee of only getting a yellow card. Ask David Turnbull and Yosuke Ideguchi.
In Donnelly’s most recent attack it was clear that frustration had got the better of him, trailing 2-0 he saw the chance to inflict serious damage on the Celtic goalkeeper.
As Schmeichel was clearing the ball Donnelly saw the opportunity to deliver his trademark late challenge, arriving a split second too late with the chance to hit the Dane on his kicking leg. For added damage there is the flying right elbow.
Nick Walsh viewed it as a yellow card offence, on VAR Robertson agreed.
Bearing in mind what he had allowed Donnelly to get away with the last time Celtic were at Rugby Park, on the night of the title clincher in May it was no surprise that the yellow card wasn’t upgraded.
?? “Yellow card. The referee dealt with it really well.”
?? “He should go for that. It is naughty. That is intent to smash him across the face.”Dermot Gallagher, Stephen Warnock & Sue Smith disagree over Liam Donnelly’s yellow after clashing with Kasper Schmeichel. Thoughts? ?? pic.twitter.com/zbJu61HIiP

The challenge below is typical of Donnelly and Scottish football, he knows that a booking is the worst punishment that he’ll pick up.
With Hatate looking to get onto a loose ball Celtic cause concern, the hoops midfielder is far too creative for an SPFL journeyman like Donnelly.
As usual he slides in late, leg at full stretch in a deliberate attack on Hatate’s lower leg. Robertson is perfectly placed to witness it.
A yellow card in the 29th minute and another hour to try and injure an opponent, Derek McInnes knows the strengths of Donnelly’s game.
“If it was Donnelly on Hatate it would have been a red card”

Brave man if he attacked big Peter! Although he’s in his 60s now I suppose…..
I think it is fair to say that the common denominator in those two games and the way that Kilmarnock play is their manager Derek Mcinness!
He sends his teams out to compete with Celtic by using brutal tacticts, to frighten and scare us into submission.
He did the exact same at Aberdeen!
It hasn’t worked however. There are always those who will resort to brutal violence to achieve their aims. Derek mcinness is certainly one of those!
Of course they’re going to get away with it in Scotland…
Perfect fit for Sevco but his name’s against him going there for sure –
Brendan didn’t say anything on Sportscene anyway…
If not then why not…
It’s only a matter of time until one of them causes serious damage to a Celtic player !
Mcinnes plan still never worked pish manager the guy. how does he not play against the cheats of liebrox newco the way he gets his players up for the celtic games hearts are the same try against celtic but do fuck all against newco .Mcinnes is just another shite manager hope he does go to liebrox he be like the rest won fuck all not unless the EBT SIDELETTERS books come back out thats the only way they can won anything is by Cheating scum clubs and scum fans
Plays for NI , enough said , probably hates celtic with a vengeance.
The guy is a thug and plays alongside other thugs and managed by a wee cry baby McInnes!
That dermot gallagher is some prick.Claims to be a Celtic man I think. 100% always sides wit the ref against Celtic on sky’s shitty little referee show. Go fcuk yourself dermot you wee hun prick. You are a disgrace boy
