Arne Engels is in joint 12th place in this season’s list of Champions League goals and assists.

The midfielder didn’t have his best night as Celtic drew 1-1 but with one goal and three assists he is keeping esteemed company in the list compiled by Transfermarkt.

Not much went right for Engels against one of his former clubs but at the age of 21 he has already made his mark in the Champions League with the same contribution as Vinicius Junior, Phil Foden, Jeremie Frimpong and Antoine Griezmann.

A total of 12 players have gathered four points on the Transfermarkt system, out in front are Barcelona duo Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha who each have seven points with the Polish striker’s tally all coming from goals.

Celtic are well represented in the table with Daizen Maeda a point adrift, last night he scored his third Champions League goal of the season, surprisingly for the Japanese internationalist he hasn’t directly contributed an assist.

Most importantly Celtic remain on course for a place in the Round of 16 Play Off’s with 10 points still the most likely target to ensure Champions League football continues into February.

If that is achieved the current squad will become the first at Celtic to play 10 Champions League matches in a season.

In the three campaigns where Celtic have reached the last 16 they have played eight matches before going out to Juventus, Barcelona and AC Milan.

Next up for Celtic and Engels is a trip to GNK Dinamo on December 10, with both clubs strongly in contention for a place in the Round of 16 Play Off there will be a knock out feel to the game although YB of Bern at home on Matchday 6 does look a ‘banker’ for Celtic with the Swiss side in bottom place and on the back of a 6-1 home defeat from Atalanta.
