Back in July Matt O’Riley was with his Celtic team-mates enjoying an outstanding pre-season in the USA, DC United, Chelsea and Manchester City were among their victims.
At tea-time yesterday City were again in O’Riley’s sights as he made a scoring EPL debut to help defeat Pep Guiadiola’s side for the second time this season.
Scattered across Scotland, Holland and Romania, Stephen Welsh, Gus Lagerbielke and Ben Siegrist shared the joy of theur former team-mate as he made his mark on the English game.
O’Riley and Brighton seem to be the perfect match, a top half club with an emphasis on playing football will give the Danish internationalist a new platform to raise his game just three years after he opted for MK Dons following frustrations at Fulham.
After a false start to his Brighton career through injury O’Riley has laid down his marker ahead of the hectic winter fixture list highlighted by the crazy festive schedule.
This morning Brighton are sitting in fourth place in the EPL, they are certain to drop below that mark following today’s four fixtures but with their former Celtic midfielder recapturing his form European football is a realistic target with a Champions League return to Glasgow next season a live option.
