Craig Moore has discussed the disappointment that Kevin Muscat felt at missing out on the Ibrox manager’s job 13 months ago after undergoing two interviews.

At the time Muscat was in charge of Yokohama F Marinos where he was able to carry on the foundations for success put in place by Ange Postecoglou.

Muscat was being tipped to ‘do an Ange’ at Ibrox  but was unable to convince James Bisgrove and John Bennett that he was the man for the job.

With Graeme Souness pushing the claims for Frank Lampard the Ibrox board went for Phil Clement and are believed to be back to square one in the annual recruitment drive.

Muscat left the J-League for a lucrative three year deal in China in charge of Shanghai Port which effectively rules him out of contention as Clement’s successor.

After being rejected once it seems unlikely that Muscat will be in any hurry to apply again for the toxic Ibrox job.

Listening to Moore discussing Muscat on Go Radio, The Sun reports the former Rangers defender saying:

At this moment in time, he (Muscat) has just finished a Champions League game, they won 3-1, so they have still got games and focus.

I don’t think that phone call is going to happen. The reality is Kevin Muscat was extremely keen on the job when he interviewed for the job twice before Philippe Clement got it.

There have been no conversations ongoing, even during this period. I think anyone who interviews for a job and doesn’t get it is disappointed.

He was disappointed, because he believed he could close the gap and change things.

That opportunity wasn’t available to Kevin and was available to Philippe.

Clement is due to hold a media conference in Nice tonight during which he will sidestep all references to incoming CEO Paddy Stewart.

The guy who takes over from big Pip will want to field his own team of players ..and that means big funds for that project that theRangers can only dream of having . There are no sellable assets of any description – human or otherwise – that can be utilised to pay for another new spending spree . The new boss will either be desperate for employment or been stranded on a desert island for ages not fully up to speed with current affairs of the financial sort down in Govanlandia when accepting the job …..

After Clement, with no cash and a shambles of a club…

someone like Billy Davies who has been out of management for 10 years,

is a more likely target for sevco?!

Davies obviously thinks he has a chance, with his recent SMSM claims that

    “he’s ready”. 🙂

Any half decent manager would want assurances and a transfer budget.

Clement has previously implied that he was fibbed to during the interview process…
