BBC Scotland are rallying to the cause with a stirring profile of RB Leipzig ahead of their Champions League match against Celtic.
Alasdair Lamont is the author, someone identified and recruited using the same method that employed Kenny Macintyre, Jane Lewis and Steven Thompson as giants of broadcasting.
Macintyre and Lamont could be switched over without anyone noticing, famously in 2021 after watching Celtic outplay Ferencvaros Lamont’s first question to Ange Postecoglou was ‘Do you think that you deserved to win the points’.
Involving another Glasgow team and the lamentable Lamont would have been high fiving and gushing all over the brilliance of the display in which a goal from Kyogo Furuhashi from a Jota pass earned acclaim from across Europe. Except for BBC licence payers.
Under the positive sounding headline of ‘Leipzig look to kick-start campaign at Celtic Park’ Lamont offered:
A 3-1 home win was quickly followed by a 2-0 at Celtic Park against Ange Postecoglou’s outfit in October 2022.
It marked their first success in Glasgow, having lost to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic in the 2018-19 Europa League and going down to Rangers in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final in 2022.
Now Rose returns to Celtic Park desperately needing a victory to breathe life into a Champions League campaign that is currently flatlining.
An admittedly unkind draw has left RB Leipzig as one of half-a-dozen pointless teams after three matches, losing on the road to Atletico Madrid, squandering a lead at home to 10-man Juventus, while Darwin Nunez and Liverpool edged them out in their own backyard.
With Inter away next before hosting Aston Villa, three points from this one feel like a necessity for the visitors.
Flying start in Bundesliga
So how well-equipped are they to achieve that task? Well, European results have been in stark contrast to the manner in which they have started the domestic season – until Saturday that is.
Profiling of European opponents is a welcome development in the Scottish media but Lamont can’t hold back on his feelings in this piece.
Olympiakos are likely to get very different treatment from the state broadcaster ahead of Thursday’s match against Phil Clement’s European ‘specialists’.
BBC Scotland are sending a team of 10 to Athens for radio coverage of the match covering commentators, pundits and technicians. Newspapers and Radio Clyde, operating on a commercial basis will each send one reporter to Thursday’s match in Greece.
How many Champions League points will Celtic get?
8 or less
9 points
10 points
More than 10!

On the BBC Scotland ‘ The Nine ‘ last night ,most of the discussions were about pyrotechnics abuse from Celtic fans . It even had diminutive Stephen McGowan from the Scottish Daily Malevolent rag , as chief prosecutor on the segment . That lot just cannot stand idly by when Celtic FC is flying high ..on and off the pitch that they must come up with some form of disparaging content . Right on time pre CL game tonight .
Nothing New. only bigoted institution we’re pensions Start for some people “ in their Twenties..
The speculation about interest in Kuhn is also an attempt to upset arguably our best player at the moment.
Which reminds me of the media pushing Sevco should sign Motherwell’s, Lennon Miller just before they faced them in the cup.
It’s an old tactic but still works.
Editor: Every on form player attracts attention, it isn’t some minister plot from Germany, if Kuhn’s form crashes, which it won’t, he has serious problems. There was speculation linking Matt O’Riley with a transfer for months- he was outstanding for months despite it. Players and clubs barely notice or care what tripe the Record and BBC is going on about.
BBC Scotland is a truly disgusting and utterly USLESS Football output broadcaster..
Still – It’s very useful for tuning into when Sevco drop points or get beaten –
The schadenfreude then is pure beautiful so it is !
Leipzig have lost by a single goal so far in the Champions League. to three teams who are all potential Champions League winners. This will be a very competitive night for Celtic but the stinking, putrid BBC is trying to devalue any success before it is even achieved.
It is not unsurprising that a Hun like Lamont cannot bring himself to say anything much about Celtic. He would likely choke on it!
I notice Ange’s Tottenham Hotspur took four to one off of Aston Villa on Sunday, which augurs well for our game against thenm in January!
And augers well for Ange and Tottenham when they rock up to Liebrox soon !
Yes, they’ll drill them right through! But who is interested in Huns on a night like this Clachnacudin!?
I’m increasingly concerned about this site and the amount of pop up Adverts, so much that I can hardly read the content
I second that. Joe, is it fair if you cannot reject those sneaky ads that are attached to random words? Snack Media have made it impossible to reject them and that is not fair.
