Shocking every time from that particular referee- Celtic star hits out at honest mistakes (other factors)

Lucy Ashworth-Clifford has spoken for many after referee Jamie Wilkie played a significant role in Celtic’s defeat in the SWPL Glasgow Derby today.

One of the key incidents in the match came midway through the second half when a penalty was awarded against Shannon McGregor when she was kicked in the penalty box.

Celtic coach Elena Sadiku was furious with the decision, earning a yellow and red for her actions from Wilkie who shows all the characteristics to join John Beaton at the top level of Scottish football.

The penalty was scored, Celtic quickly equalised but eventually went down to a 3-2 defeat to provide the watching bears with a rare moment of celebration.

Sadiku was prevented from doing a post-match interview with Sky Sports but in a refreshing development Ashworth-Clifford called out Wilkie and his back catalogue for honest mistakes going in one direction.

It is always difficult, especially when you are playing against other factors that can’t really be controlled by us but it is what it is and hopefully next time we are going to smash them. It was a lot of decisions, to be fair. Shocking every time it is that particular ref.

We have watched it back and even Sky Sports themselves said it was a foul on Shannon McGregor. I think that sums it up, really. The first time we played them this season they were 2-0 up and we showed resilience to come back and the same thing happened this time. We had to go against other factors and just show what we can do

As today’s efforts showed the SWPL is mainly an attempt to extend the O** F*** brand in a bid to commercialise things into new markets.

Sadiku and Ashworth-Clifford are effectively outsiders to the long running Scottish drama, it wouldn’t be a surprise if either or both of them opted to leave Celtic at the end of this season to ply their trade in a league with credibility and accountability.

In March 2023 former Celtic boss Fran Alonso was head-butted by Ibrox coach Craig McPherson following a Glasgow Derby, in trademark style Celtic said nothing with McPherson serving a touchline ban for just six matches from the SFA.
