Tim Vickery has added a bizarre twist to one of the least likely success stories of the season with one Brazilian journalist suggesting that there could be a call up to the BRAZILIAN national side for the defender.
Being Argentinian might turn out to be a bit of a difficulty for that move!
Vickery is the voice and face of South American football for many UK media outlets including the BBC, Sky Sports and TalkSPORT.
After standing in for Greg Taylor in four matches following the winter break it seems that Brendan Rodgers had virtually given up on the former Lanus defender.
Even with no other natural left-back in the squad the Celtic boss agreed to send Bernabei on loan to Internacional of Brazil.
Celtic fans might be interested to know that Bernabei is proving a sensation in Brazil with Internacional.
One journo – unaware that he is Argentine – even wanted him to be called up by Brazil— Tim Vickery (@Tim_Vickery) November 8, 2024
How many Champions League points will Celtic win?
11 points or less
12 points
13 points
14 points or more
It took Bernabei a little time to find his feet, and a first team place with the Brazilian side but over the last two months the news emerging has all been positive.
Bernabei has been playing, scoring and contributing for Internacional and now appears to be out of their price range with some suggestions of an international call up. For Argentina, obviously.
With five matches left to play Internacional are upto seventh place in the Brazilian Serie A table on the back of seven wins and three draws in their last 10 matches.
It seems that almost anything is possible now for Bernabei with the exception of becoming Brazil’s next left-back.
The 23-year-old is under contract with Celtic until May 2027.

They clearly have football hacks in Brazil who are as knowledgeable as the ones we have here in scotland!
Reminds me slightly of the Hearts fan who called a phone-in to ask why Antti Niemi wasn’t getting into the scotland squad…. when told “Because he’s Finnish”, he replied “He is not, he’s only 28!”…. I often wondered given the depth of his stupidity if he’d had to get somebody else to dial the number for him, and if so what that individual was up to?!!
