A hint of Larsson? Watch Johnny Kenny’s latest European goal

There was something vaguely familiar about Johnny Kenny’s second goal for Shamrock Rovers in the 3-0 win over Borac in the UEFA Conference League victory in Dublin.

Sent through one-on-one with the goalkeeper the striker hinted at a shot, as the onrushing keeper moved down the ball was gently dinked over him and into the net.

Half close your eyes and it is Henrik Larsson v Stefan Klos, an iconic moment for Martin O’Neill’s side as they turned the tide with a 6-2 win over Rangers. In many ways the defining game of the century, just eight months after it had got underway.

Kenny wasn’t even born when the Swede scored that iconic goal but with five goals in the Conference the on-loan Celtic striker is the top scorer in the competition.

Rovers are sitting in sixth place in the Conference table, they travel to Chelsea next week hoping for a top eight place but are guaranteed a Play Off place as they enjoy their longest ever European campaign, stretching back to Champions League qualifiers in July.

Stamford Bridge looks like being Kenny’s farewell to Shamrock Rovers, his loan expires with his form obviously reigniting interest at Celtic where there is believed to be a need for a third striker, someone young and emerging.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah have shared the striking duties at Celtic this season, both offering something very different with their share of goals and contributing to the play of the team.

Unless there is an injury it is hard to see where Kenny or anyone else gets the chance to impress but there seems to be something about Kenny that demands a closer look.

Like Alexandro Bernabei but at a different level to the Brazilian League it seems that this loan has worked out perfectly with the young striker returning to Celtic very different to the near forgotten signing that was sent back to Rovers for a second spell on loan.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Lol oh there’s an absolute BELTER of an article by Mark Scary in the daily sevco today.
The headline is,The Workd Reacts To Sevco Stranglehold On Spurs And Ange Ball.

A Spurs reserves team,a team that wee Coco the klown at ibrox noise was bragging about the other day that are in TOTAL DISARRAY,and we here we have sevco struggling to a point.
Now if that’s a Spurs side in DISARRAY, how the F**K did sevco not beat them then.

The ARSEHOLE at the daily sevco that attempted to write that article should SACKED and JAILED.

The League of Ireland Fixtures for 2025 will be announced 17 December 2024. A Club like Shamrock Rovers can
register a max three new January transfered players for the UEFA Leagues. There are a lot of “IFS and Buts”.
Could Johnny Kenny come home to Celtic Park by the 2 February 2025 and Luis Palma be loaned to Shamrock Rovers.
Luis’ wage to be paid by Celtic. He to be registered for UEFA Conference League by S Rovers. Luis has played as a center forward.
Johnny will cover for any injuries to Kyogo or Adam. Even for a few games, would be advantageous.. Luis will be a cult sensation for S Rovers.
Luis gets to improve, with valuable game time. Brendan gets to see JK up close.
A win-win for both Clubs and players.
