Stephen McGowan has given an insight into the transfer summit held in Dublin last week between Brendan Rodgers and Dermot Desmond.
On Friday at his pre-match conference the Celtic boss volunteered that the meeting had taken place following the success in the League Cup Final.
Despite a highly successful start to the new season Rodgers will be well aware of the areas that his side and squad need strengthened in.
The Irishman is approaching the halfway stage of his three year contract with the extent of transfer ambitions likely to be a key factor in his decision over whether he should extend his Celtic stay.
Giving the lowdown from Dublin, McGowan tells Daily Mail readers:
Rodgers held a transfer planning summit with major shareholder Dermot Desmond and chief executive Michael Nicholson in Dublin last week, when they discussed new arrivals in January.
A left-winger is a priority. Regardless of whether left-back Greg Taylor commits to a new deal, Rodgers would also like to secure Kieran Tierney for a Parkhead return.
Effectively a free agent in the summer, the Arsenal player has already drawn strong interest from major clubs in England and abroad.
Daizen Maeda has been the undisputed, and largely unchallenged left-winger in the side, providing a unique blend of industry and goals.
James Forrest provides cover and another option but this season Luis Palma has offered little when given the chance to step up.
Former winger Jota seems to be available for transfer from Rennes but whether he’d be interested in a Celtic return or would suit Rodgers’ style is far from certain.

Before the injuries to kuhn and forrest, another wide option was always going to be our priority?
Depending upon the extent of the injuries, it could be a case of whether we are actually looking for 1 or 2 now?
With only 3 changes allowed from our original 25man CL squad, then these injuries may well have thrown bit of a spanner into, the plans of Rodgers for the January transfer window?
The here and now, means a wide option is a priority, and hopefully can get one in early in January?
A injury to a midfield player, also leaves ourselves short in that area also.
Has been the case all season, and luckily hasn’t had any impact upon ourselves to date, yet we saw the effect it had upon ourselves in the league cup final also?
And this without the ongoing Taylor contract saga, with rumours regarding kyogo now?
So with the amount of overall work, that we would like to hopefully see in January, I don’t think that Rodgers is going to get everything that he might be hoping for either imo?
It’s going to start becoming a bigger requirement within a summer window, to get a squad in place for the season ahead, especially when there isn’t as much available room within the squad, to make any changes required during January, especially with the quality factor Rodgers is looking for also?
If we can get money for Kyogo we should take it. We need a new centre forward and should give Cummings or Johnny Kenny a chance
