Josh Windass has been sharing details of the life changing winning mentality that he acquired during two seasons at Ibrox.
The midfielder might have picked up that winning trait at Murray Park but on the park he looked on helplessly as Celtic swept to successive trebles.
Windass was signed by Mark Warburton in January 2016 from Accrington Stanley, when the clubs couldn’t agree a fee he remained with the English side until the summer.
Eventually at Ibrox he joined up with James Tavernier, Andy Halliday, Martyn Waghorn, Jason Holt, Joe Dodoo and Lee Wallace where he picked up the winners mentality.
Steven Gerrard didn’t hesitate when he was offered £600,000 from Wigan but six years on Windass told SportsBoom.com why that move didn’t work out:
Rangers changed my mentality fully. Looking back when I went to Wigan after Rangers it was my mistake.
I took that mentality to that place and I think it was wrong of me. Clubs expectations are different and that’s where I fell short during my time at Wigan. I had a Rangers mentality for a different club. When I went to Rangers it really changed my outlook on football and training. You’ve got to be at your best every single day.
That came from the players that I was watching everyday who had that same mindset. If you didn’t have that you would have been the odd one out.
For his second season at Ibrox Windass was joined by Carlos Pena, Declan John, Eduardo Herrera, Ryan Jack and Daniel Candeias…
I don’t go into any football team I’m in to make friends. Myself, my team mates, I want everyone to be the best they can be every single day to win for the team. Sometimes that can spill over and you can fall out with team mates and fall out with players. The intention is for everyone to be at their best and to win.
In Windass’ first season at Ibrox his side finished 39 points behind Celtic and nine short of Aberdeen.
He lasted one more full season, signing off from the Glasgow Derby with a 4-0 and 5-0 defeats to Celtic alongside players such as Jason Cummings and Greg Docherty.
Windass is expected to be involved in the All-Stars team that plays in the James Tavernier Testimonial next July.
the shameful daily radar have also went ahead with this on their website.
Since testimonials can break away from the norm a bit, instead of running out to Tina Turner’s rousing “Simply The (2nd) Best”, the Tavpen XI could run out on to the iBrox pitch to the strains of “I’m A Loser” by the Fab Four, or even Public Image Ltd’s 1989 single “Disappointed”……
Wideass is a twat, couldn’t win a game of I spy if he played himself.
