Internacional have reinstated their desire to sign Alexandro Bernabei for next season.
The defender arrived quietly from Celtic in March but after getting into the side was selected as the best left-back in Brazil after playing in 23 of Internacional’s 38 league matches.
With the 2024 season over Bernabei’s loan deal is effectively over with question marks over his future.
Despite impressing out on loan it is unlikely that he is about to compete with or push Greg Taylor and Alex Valle out of the Celtic side, last season Brendan Rodgers left the Argentinian out of his 25 man Champions League squad.
Other clubs are bound to have been impressed by his form at Internacional where club President Alessandro Barcellos is putting on a public show to get another deal completed for the popular defender.
Picking up on news from Radio Gaucha, The Nacional report Barcellos saying:
It depends on the Scottish club’s interest. It may be a new lending [loan] or a price that we can pay.
It is a worthy investment to pay for a loan. In the first loan, the price was low.
Having paid around £3.5m to Lanus in June 2022 for Bernabei it seems likely that Celtic are looking to make a profit on the defender on the back of his form and award in Brazil.
Of the current Internacional squad only striker Rafael Borre, signed from Eintracht Frankfurt cost more than 2m euros.
With Bernabei’s stock at such a highly level it would seem likely that Celtic will look to sell the defender rather than take on another loan deal.
