Aberdeen are banned from revealing any details of Connor Barron’s Compensation fee.
The midfielder’s contract at Aberdeen ended in June allowing him to join the Phil Clement Revolution! On a four year contract.
If Barron had moved to England or Italy Aberdeen would already have received a fee based on first team appearances and the number of years that he had been in the Aberdeen Academy.
When a player under-21 moves to a Scottish club the fee is decided by the SPFL if both clubs can’t come to agreement.
In 2018 that situation arose between Aberdeen and Hamilton over the transfer of Lewis Hamilton, after both clubs submitted evidence a fee was decided with the clubs informed on August 20.
Barron has played in 25 matches this season with the SPFL still to set a date to decide on the value of an u-21 internationalist who has now been in the full Scotland squad for the last four Nations League matches.
Covering the Aberdeen AGM, BBC Scotland reports:
Speaking after Aberdeen’s annual general meeting, Burrows explained that SPFL rules prohibit him from revealing any details.
However, he did add: “This situation has dragged on too long, in my opinion. I am happy to say that.”
When pressed on a likely tribunal date, Burrows continued: “All I can say is I hope it won’t be too much longer.”
And he hopes the governing body can learn from the experience.
“I think it should be a catalyst for us to have a better process when it comes to players who go out of contract then move to another club within the same league who can’t then come to an agreement on what the value should be on the cost recovery,” he said.
“It has been a long process, it has been a time consuming process, it has been something that has taken up a lot of management, staff hours and money to try and get to the point where we are.”
Burrows ought to know his stuff, in August 2019 he was voted onto the Board of the SPFL, telling the Motherwell website:
I’m honoured to be once again voted on by our fellow Premiership clubs to the SPFL board.
Last year was a real learning curve for me and I hope my experience over the last 12 months can help me better serve the clubs and the game in Scotland.
I am passionate about Scottish football and even more so about improving it and look forward to working with my colleagues at other clubs, together with the SPFL executive, in doing that.
It seems that being on the Board of the SPFL doesn’t involve real issues like having a process in place that sets a timescale for Compensation fees.
Once the fee is decided Aberdeen should be looking for full payment rather than the usual Ibrox tactic of spreading relatively small payments over three or four years.

Payment in full or se ya in court. That said, there is an element of Aberdeen being hoist by their own petard in this – they absolutely stiffed Hamilton in the Ferguson deal, offering £100,000 knowing full well he was worth a lot more than that and that transfer tribunals nearly always come down closer to the valuation of the buying club than the selling club, like they did when Man Utd played the system during the signing of Brian McClair back in 1987. Top scorer four seasons in a row, we ask for £2m (he was a far better goalscorer than Beardsley who was sold for £1.9m that summer), they offer £350,000 and the transfer tribunal decided on £850,000.
Have we ever been taken to a transfer tribunal as the buying club? I cannot think of an occasion when that has happened. I’m sure we must have at some point.
What a truly rancid football country Scotland actually is…
Scotnorthkorealand they should name the international team –
No wonder I don’t give a Continental Fuck how the international team gets on these days…
The SFA have left me without an international team to support any more due to their years of corruption !
Is there any professional nook or cranny the SFA haven’t contaminated ?
As a bare minimum,
a player in Barron’s position should be automatically ineligible to play
against his former club until a fee has been agreed,
and the first stage payment has been made?
You could have had a ridiculous scenario of Barron playing for sevco
against Aberdeen in the LC Final this weekend,
– with him scoring the winner?
What does the grossly overpaid lawyer / administrator Doncaster actually do…?
Three words to answer your question in the last line of your post Bob (original)…
PERPETUALLY – PROTECTING – SEVCO !!!
Ah that auld favourite as many easy payments as you like.
As I said they will punt The Stonner Man and Aberdeen will still be waiting on the money coming to them, meanwhile sebco have a done a bunk to the bank with Aberdeens player and cash.
Doncaster should get kicked out of Scottish football for good the guy is a masonic fuckpig he’s terrified of that board at liebrox Doncaster gives them every decision going he even said that oldco are still the same club its about time the fans started to boycott all cup games and give the corrupt sfa.spfl FUCK ALL HONEST
