John Beaton will referee the League Cup Final at Hampden next Sunday, the third time this year that the man from the Crown Bar in Bellshill has been put in charge of the Derby fixture.

In March Brendan Rodgers described Beaton as incompetent on VAR duty when the hoops lost 2-0 to Hearts with Yang Hyun-jun sent off and a ridiculous penalty awarded against Tomoki Iwata.

Rodgers was given a two match touchline ban for his comments, one suspended for 12 months.

Two weeks ago at the Celtic AGM Michael Nicholson was asked whether he agreed with his manager or if it was a slur on the character of a top referee from the Celtic manager.

Nicholson deflected it away to discuss the improvement in the general standard of refereeing in Scottish football, highlighting Willie Collum’s monthly whitewash with his media mate Gordon Duncan.

Nicholson, Beaton

Beaton refereed the 3-3 Moral Victory at Ibrox in April and Celtic’s 3-0 win at the start of September, his Hampden appointment gives him the accolade of taking charge of successive Derby matches while Don Robertson, Nick Walsh, Steven McLean and Kevin Clancy on the outside looking in.

At the same meeting Nicholson couldn’t hazard a guess over the last Academy player to start a first team match (the answer is Owen Moffat if you can pass it on Peter).

Alan Muir will be on VAR duty for the cup final, the man that stood 10 yards away from Josh Meekings when he handled a goal bound header from Leigh Griffiths in the 2015 Scottish Cup Final.

Muir was on VAR duty for Celtic’s recent win over Motherwell at Fir Park when he disallowed a ‘goal’ from Daizen Maeda for handball but ‘missed’ out on the foul on the Celtic forward that sent him sprawling onto the ground.

The stage is clear now for David Dickinson to be in charge for Celtic’s match at Ibrox on January 2.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

I was down in England midweek watching ma favourite (unfashionable) English team in action and the referee and his assistants were very very fair indeed…

A refreshing change from the bent and corrupt shower of Bastards in Not so Bonnie (Football) Scotland !!!

Oh fuck we better be on game for this final, those 2 CHISLING HUNS will be out in force to give sevco every advantage in that final.
Don’t be surprised to see 2 of our players sent off,one in the first half one in the second with penalty thrown in fir good measure, with the odd goal chopped off for us as well.

  • Batfink says:

He has been on mute since he was appointed, did you expect anything different!!

  • The Joker says:

He is the world champion at being on a SPONSORED SILENCE.

  • The Joker says:

Sevco will sign Miller in January but will refuse to pay Motherwell tol dollar that they want.
Motherwell will allow Miller to go to sevco on the cheap, with catalogue installment payments.

Just look how they are haggling with Aberdeen over a few nickel&dimes for Stonner Barron.

  • The Joker says:

So Doncaster the DONKEY is going TONTO about the pyrotechnics at both semi-finals so isn’t blind to that, but he dies have selective hearing in regards to sevco with their songs of hatred towards Catholics at the same venue.
