Steven Thompson dropped an unfortunate truth bomb during Sportscene as he tried to analyse St Mirren’s victory over his real team.
Like most folk on the payroll of BBC Scotland Thommo likes to pretend that he is a fan of a Diddy Team when the truth is that his interest in Scottish football starts and ends at Ibrox.
That is the sort of product knowledge that ensures a long term career with BBC Scotland. Over staffed and overpaid it has accumulated the divorse talent base that includes Thompson, Kenny Macintyre, Alasdair Lamont and Jane Lewis as presenters with Neil McCann, Kenny Miller, Steven Naismith, Billy Dodds, Cammy Bell and Lee McCulloch to call on as pundits.

Thursday’s episode would have been eagerly anticipated with Phil Clement’s exciting young team now in second place and a January 2 victory away from being only six points behind Celtic.
That was the plan for Sportscene in the evening with Thommo teaming up with Naismith and Scott Allan to go through the December 26 highlights.
The Sportscene studio must have been the scene of absolute misery as St Mirren forced the lads to tear up the script with Clement’s side losing for the fourth time this season with Celtic closing on winning title number 55 in the spring time.
Topping off the misery Leon Balogun limped off injured during the first half, forcing Robin Propper off the bench for another unfortunate experience of Scottish football.
Knowing that John Souttar is out for another month leaves Clement with two central defenders going into the new year, that could be reduced even further with Propper expected to pick up an injury at Motherwell on Sunday that will rule him out of facing Celtic four days later.
Big Thommo has never had any offers from commercial media companies, his style of presenting seems perfectly suited to a lifetime inside BBC Scotland or until the licence fee is done away with.
Nice to see the failed coach – Naismith – land on his feet running with lots of work offers from BBC Scotland,in his time of need ? Another ex theRangers player on the publicly funded broadcaster’ s payroll … who’d have thunk it !

Still it was a beautiful five minutes of schadenfreude all the same !

I spotted this immediately and fired an email to the beeb complaining of that and the notion that putting the ex hearts manager on the panel when the new one is struggling was a fair idea. You never know, they might be inviting Bealing, Retard, and Brokenheart into the studio for the Jan 2nd gubbing. No reply to my email as yet.

Derek Ferguson always sounds like a remedial class schoolboy trying to read something out to the class when he stutters and stammers through ‘his’ match reports…. I strongly suspect somebody else has to write them though, as Derek sounds like he posseses an IQ level similar to that of a boiled potato. It speaks volumes for Derek’s level of intellect that Barry is actually considered to be ‘the brainy one’ in the Ferguson family!
