Phil Clement just can’t find any escape from people discussing his exciting young side.
Four wins on the bounce have got the football world talking about all things Ibrox again with the 1-1 draw at home to Dundee United and 11 point gap to champions Celtic completely forgotten about.
Whether it is the Iron Man defending of Jefte, the box-to-box skills of Connor Barron or the impressive weight loss of Nicky Raskin there is only one topic out there on the streets.
Moroccan superstar Hamza Igamane has scored in back-to-back games against Kilmarnock with that achievement reaching the aisles of Tesco!
Despite being as dull as dishwater, Clement has tried to apply a populist touch to his media conferences. Yesterday, as he discussed his side’s prospects against Spurs he couldn’t resist a reference to how his exciting young team are being discussed in Tesco when he goes to pick up his waffles and hot-dogs.
“When I go to Tesco everyone is talking about the new young guys…there’s a lot of excitement from the fans”

QUESTION: Are you expecting an added spice from the crowd with Postecoglou’s return to Ibrox?
I don’t know that. I only wish that the fans are behind our players and to push them like it was the last couple of weeks. When the players showed the quality on the pitch, the fans are amazing behind them.
We saw it again in Ross County, so far away from here and so many fans. And from the first second to the last second, there was a great atmosphere. But sometimes when you’re on the sides, I would prefer to be in the stands instead of standing on the sides because it was that good an atmosphere. So, no, it’s all about us. We’re focused on ourselves.
I’m happy and I see it also when, it doesn’t happen so much, but when I come outside or I go to Tesco to buy something, everybody’s talking about the new young guys coming into the team and how well they are doing. You feel the excitement with a lot of fans that they see the potential in this squad, that there is potential in this squad and a lot for the future. And they want to see more and more and more of that. So, you feel that this vibe is growing in the city.
It also seems that his comment on Sunday, delivered in English about not being in the same financial league as Spurs and Celtic was taken out of context.
When he said that he actually meant something very different and that on any given day his exciting young team is capable of beating any opponent.
Other than Hearts, Celtic, Dinamo Kiev, Lyon, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Dundee United who have all beaten or drawn with Clement’s exciting young side this season.
