For the 22nd time Celtic won the League Cup, at Hampden today they lifted the trophy following a penalty shoot out.
Following a 3-3 draw the match went to extra time, Celtic netted five out of five with Kasper Schmeichel saving from Ridvan Yilmaz to deliver the trophy.
At the age of 38 the great Dane dived low to his left to block the shot from the Turkish defender as the match swung Celtic’s way.
Reo Hatate netted to put Celtic in front, Jack Butland surprisingly took a penalty and scored but couldn’t stop Daizen Maeda from netting the 10th and decisive penalty.

Adam Idah, McGregor and Arne Engels all scored cleanly from 12 yards out, once Maeda scored the party kicked off as trophy 119 was delivered in the most dramatic fashion.
Despite the glut of trophies over the last eight years every fresh triumph is celebrated like it is a first ever trophy lift.
McGregor lifted the trophy in the centre circle before it was shown around half the stadium to scenes of joy among the Celtic support.
By no means was it a vintage performance from Rodgers’ side but finals are about winning with the trophy scenes back at Celtic Park telling thestory of the day.
