Abject despair for Barry Ferguson as his title winning rallying call crashes and burns

Barry Ferguson’s head must be bursting again.

On Thursday his heart was pounding with pride as he watched his team finally beat Celtic in a meaningful match, it has been a while. By Sunday afternoon a 3-3 draw at Hibs rendered the victory in the Glasgow Derby virtually meaningless.

Except for Phil Clement who now has a win over Celtic on his CV.

Ferguson is the staunchest of fans, as Daily Record readers know all too well he spends much of his time thinking about his club and how they can overcome Celtic after living through the hoops winning 20 of the last 25 domestic trophies.

After a season of misery Thursday afternoon was a chink of light, an unexpected 3-0 victory as Celtic crashed to their first domestic defeat since the start of March. Amid the celebrations Fergie had a nagging doubt over why Clement’s team could hammer Celtic on the back of taking one point from six against St Mirren and Motherwell.

Against Hibs they reverted back to the ways that saw those points dropped on the road.

In Saturday’s Record Fergie still held out hope of turning the SPFL title race around, tonight on Go Radio reality is likely to be back at the top of the menu.

Looking forward to the match against Hibs he said:

We’ve all heard the debate over sports science and whether or not Philippe Clement has been guilty of paying too much attention to the stats and the data. Well if I was him at Easter Road on Sunday I would turn around to the same XI who started on Thursday and tell them to get back out there and go again – no matter what the laptops are saying.

Wrap them up in cotton wool, give them a warm down and a session with the masseur, then roll them back out against Hibs and demand the same again. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against sports science. Far from it. The emergence of sports science helped me prolong my career as a professional footballer.

He added:

If I had the chance to speak to that group of players then my message would be very clear, ‘You have to show that same level of energy, passion, commitment and drive every time you pull on that shirt. Nothing less can ever be acceptable at this club’.

I’m not talking about the way they moved the ball and cut through Celtic with the quality of their passing. You can’t expect to be at the top of your game every time you run out on to a pitch. Football doesn’t work that way.

But what you can demand is that everyone in that team is prepared to put the graft in. If they work as hard against every other team as they did against Celtic, then they’ll win a helluva lot more games than they’ll lose between now and the end of the season.

Does that give them a chance of winning the title? I’m not sure. The truth is Celtic will have to hit a brick wall between now and May for that to become a realistic possibility but it’s the job of these Rangers players to push them as far as they can.

There is a responsibility on them to never give it up. Yes, it’s a long shot but if Rangers go about their business with the attitude they showed on Thursday then who knows? It might not be a lost cause just yet.

Trailing Celtic by 13 points after 20 matches suggests that Ferguson’s wish might now be a lost cause, if Celtic beat Dundee United on Wednesday night Clement’s team will kick off away to Dundee on Thursday trailing the champions by 16 points.

Nothing to worry about here, the Morrocan Messi hit a hat-trick yesterday and that will bring in the big guns for his signature, with bids starting at £30 million.
As for Benjamin Ferguson that’s him back to his dot to dot book and crayons to colour in.

You would think after the Thursday result the rangers 2012 were not 11 points” behind Celtic they where going to push Celtic all the way well that did not last long Celtic now increased the points to 13 ” plus massive goal difference well back to la la land for the rangers fans.

I was talking to my “friend” who supports “the rangers” a while ago.. CELTIC had just gone 9 points ahead he told me that the league was effectively over….last week he said that’s game on . I reminded him what he said…..is answer was…. that was then this is now….. So 9 points behind us worse than 11 points behind….maths is NOT his strong point
