Anthony Joseph has claimed that Kyogo Furuhashi’s Celtic exit is being driven by international ambitions.
The striker has had three and a half highly successful seasons at Celtic but has been in and out of the Japan squad and rarely been a starter under Hajime Moriyasu.
Despite being in sparkling form for Celtic Kyogo failed to make the 23 man squad for the 2022 World Cup Finals in South Korea, adding to the puzzle Celtic winger Daizen Maeda was played as a striker and scored against Croatia while his team-mate watched from afar.
Moriyasu doesn’t have a high regard for Scottish football with Reo Hatate also a fringe figure for his national team.
With the next World Cup less than 18 months away it seems that Kyogo’s international hopes are behind a rumoured move to Rennes.

Rennes are in advanced talks to sign Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi for around £10m.
Sky Sports News understands an offer is on the table, with the possibility of Jota returning to Glasgow also being discussed separately.
Kyogo has been a key player for the Hoops since arriving in Scotland in the summer of 2021 under Ange Postecoglou.
However, his form for Celtic has not always been recognised by Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu, who has previously criticised the Scottish league.
It’s believed Kyogo would welcome the chance to join a club in one of Europe’s top five leagues, despite Celtic’s progression to the Champions League knockouts.
The 30-year-old, who had three goals disallowed against Young Boys on Wednesday night, has netted 85 times for the Hoops in all competitions.
With the news out there is bound to be intense speculation about Kyogo’s future, and who could possibly take his place in the Celtic squad.
A move for Jota has been mentioned but if Kyogo is sold it leaves Adam Idah as the only recognised striker in the Celtic squad although Maeda has been used in that role.

Such a shame the great man Kyogo might go. If he does, whoever replaces him will have to be very special indeed. He took to Celtic and the supporters took to him. He will go down as one of the greats and rightly so. It makes it slightly easier to take if Jota returns, though he will have to be sorted out mentally after his nightmare away time. Kyogo’s going will depress most of us, he played with such energy and style and always, always smiling. He gave us such pleasure and we will miss him and we will always remember him.

than Celtic FC. Go on! Rangers FC is UEFA ranked 30 on coefficients. Higher than many
French teams. Would Hajime Moriyasu select Kyogo from Rennes, if they were relegated next season, to the Ligue de Football (Second Division). It could happen. Three Teams are relegated. Why would Kyogo join an easy-beat team?
The top 6 teams in Scottish P L are extremely high quality. and would beat or challenge the bottom 6 Ligue 1 teams. If Anthony knows Kyogo, he may be right in his reasoning.
I think Anthony’s story like mine, is subjective.
Bullshit total nonsense he won’t be sold till the summer we’ve got no other striker idah and Kenny and Cummins as our strikers .still in the Scottish Cup and champions league just can’t see it like the American team French journalists they need a striker and we loved jota putting 2 and 2 and getting 5.
