To the relief of many Celtic fans the potential transfer of Kygo Furuhashi to Atlanta United is now looking ‘increasingly unlikely’.
That is the verdict of Anthony Joseph with the Sky Sports reporter generally well informed on Celtic transfer matters.
Since Christmas time there has been fairly constant speculation over Kyogo joining the MLS side, last week the official MLS website even published an article on the actual signing before quickly deleting and replacing it with news of the arrival of Cayman Togashi, a different Japanese forward.
Kyogo extended his contract soon after Brendan Rodgers returned as manager but with his 30th birthday coming later this month there might be a temptation for some within Celtic to cash in if a substantial profit is offered.
UPDATE: Atlanta United want to sign a striker to fill a Designated Player spot.
They’ve made an £18m bid for Middlesbrough’s Emmanuel Latte Lath
Crystal Palace’s Odsonne Edouard also a target.
They still like Celtic’s Kyogo but a move for him is looking increasingly unlikely. https://t.co/7I3w6TpVEj

Like most players at Celtic Kyogo’s form has been up and down over the last two months, there was an incredible goal against Hibs in early December and two important strikes away to Ross County on Saturday.
Last night at Dundee he was very effective from a position wider on the right but once Adam Idah was substituted and Kyogo moved into the centre there was less of a threat from the player and Celtic overall.
Your last paragraph re Kyogo, Joe, sums up what I thought. I wonder if Jonny Kenny could come in where Adam Idah played and give us more of a threat. If he doesn’t get a chance he’ll be off out on loan again and we may never see what he can offer. By all accounts he did very well at Shamrock Rovers. Just a thought from a mind that took another hammering in last night’s 2nd half, never having properly recovered from that shambles at Ibrox.
