Attitude- soon to depart Celtic defender explains his career turnaround

Alexandro Bernabei has explained how a change of attitude has turned around his career.

The 24-year-old started last season at Celtic with fans unsure of what his position really was.

He could bomb forward a bit but had little grasp of defending which restricted him to starting just 16 matches under two different managers at Celtic.

For the best part of five or six years left-back has been a problem position at Celtic, Greg Taylor has turned in a few solid seasons but there has been a lack of cover and competition in his position.

Boli Bolingoli, Diego Laxalt and Bernabei have all been tried in the position but came up short.

When Bernabei went on loan to Internacional in March it looked like he was destined for oblivion but the Argentinian made such an impact that one journalist queried why he wasn’t in contention for a call up to the Brazilian national side.

It now seems that a call up to the Argentinian national squad is a genuine possibility, a permanent move to Internacional is about to be rubber stamped with the year 2024 definitely marking a turnaround in his career.

That turnaround has created a lot of intrigue in the defender, speaking to Argentinian site Ole, Bernabei gave a simple explanation for the upturn in his career:

I changed my attitude, my desire to improve every day when it was my turn. I had the best with my teammates and I never stopped learning.

The full-back position is a position that is highly regarded in Brazil. Coming to the Brasileirao helped me a lot because of the way of playing with the ball, with full-backs who are very high up.

The vast majority of full-backs attack. Here in the squad I found players of hierarchy like Alan Patrick, Mercado, Rochet, Alario, Bustos who is now in River… All great players who helped me get used to it.

Meanwhile, completing the circle it seems that Celtic are close to signing Kieran Tierney while Taylor and Alex Valle currently compete for the left-back position that Bernabei never really convinced in.
