Celtic have been credited with an interest in Lille forward Mohamed Bayo.
Brendan Rodgers currently alternates between Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah for the striking role but there has been a lot of recent speculation over the Japanese striker moving on.
That seems unlikely with two Champions League ties looming but now into his fourth season Kyogo has stayed much longer than other imports such as Jota, Virgil van Dijk, Matt O’Riley and Victor Wanyama.
Recruitment is a year round business but due to Financial Sustainability Rules Celtic are one of the few clubs able to spend serious sums this month.
Foot Mercato reports:
Mohamed Bayo is having a very hard time with this situation and is opening the door to his departure!
Integrated into the group against AJA and coming on at the end of the match, Mohamed Bayo learned not without surprise that he had not been called up for the match against OM at the Orange Vélodrome while the other LOSC striker Matias Fernandez-Pardo is unavailable for several weeks. The sidelining of too many for one of the most prolific supersubs in Ligue 1 (2 goals in 216 minutes of playing time) who does not understand LOSC’s constant about-faces towards him.
If he had not planned to leave the North this winter, this artistic vagueness pushes the number 27 of LOSC to imagine all the possibilities including that of a departure according to our information.
And many French and European clubs are eyeing the Lille striker. In addition to SCO Angers and Royal Antwerp, Celtic Glasgow is interested, as well as Las Palmas in Spain and Como in Italy have come to inquire.
In France, Montpellier and FC Metz are on the lookout for a loan of a few months. As for the northern club, a departure of their striker under contract until June 2027 is not really a feasible option, especially in the middle of the winter transfer window. Between Fernandez-Pardo’s injury and a Jonathan David file that could suddenly get out of hand, LOSC is stalling, much to the dismay of Mohamed Bayo, who only aspires to one thing, namely to play… in Lille or elsewhere.
Bayo has only played 216 minutes in Lique 1 this season, topped up by 75 minutes across two appearances in the Champions League.
With Celtic and Lille both involved in the Champions League it looks like any business will be put on hold until after Matchday 12 on January 29.
Brendan Rodgers will meet the media over lunch but it is unusual for any breaking transfer news to come out with a few standard phrases used to discuss ongoing transfer activities.

Might be a decent player, but with limited minutes played this season
he’s less likely to ‘hit the ground running’ which is what we need now?
Oh Dear, sounds like another Rodgers dud
Celtic should offer sevco half a mill fer igmani and unsettle him like the do do !!! what say the Bunion bears about that !!! Haw ? chortle !!
Many a true word spoken in jest. I would offer them £5 million as it would severely weaken them as well us give us someone with a bit of energy and an eye for goal. I wouldn’t worry about them using it to strengthen the side as money seems to disappear into a black hole over there.
FFS! I was a touch underwhelmed that we’d beaten a host of EPL ‘giants’ and Euro Galacticos to the signing of an 80 year old scout. Now we’ve got another Lawwell-style punt on the horizon? FFS, just WHAT TF IS GOING ON?
We’ve 2 massive CL games to play and will need fresh talent to blood-in for next season’s CL qualifiers and we’re fu**ing about like this!
It’ll no doubt be equally successfull to the fukking about at the back we do whilst driving our world-class supporters nuts, those who truly understand the entertainment that football CAN offer.
Jesus H Christ…….”World class in everything we do.” Get tae f**k Lawwell and take yer ginger puppet wae ye, ya pairae tossers!
Mr Toc when all is said and done, Lawwell isn’t telling them to pass about at the back until someone messes up or gives the ball to Hatate so he can give it to the opposition. He doesn’t say give it to McGregor so he can complete his 500,000th 3 yard pass.
He has his faults but…
I never, EVER, thought I could feel like this watching my beloved Celtic, but this is NOT my beloved Celtic. If I could I’d organise a walk-out in the 67th minute in memory of how much we miss FOOTBALL, beautiful, inventive, winning football.
