Atalanta are reported to be ‘looking at’ Arne Engels.
The Italian side certainly got a close up viewing of the midfielder in October when the midfielder helped the hoops to a Champions League draw in Bergamo.
That came shortly after Celtic paid a club record fee to sign Engels from Augsburg, since moving to Scotland he has played in the Champions League and made his full international debut.
There are some parallels with the career of Matt O’Riley, during the summer Atalanta were reported to have made a number of bids for the midfielder before he moved to Brighton.

We are talking about Arne Engels , Belgian midfielder born in 2003 for Celtic , bought last summer by the Scots for around 11 million. As the reported makes clear there is no bid pending but equally if Engels progresses at his current rate there is bound to be bids coming in further down the line.
Celtic will be comfortable with that, when they sign someone with that profile it comes with the reality that at some stage he will follow Virgil van Dijk, Jota and Kris Ajer onto a richer league.
At the age of 21 Engels has experience of football in Belgium, Germany and Scotland, it is unlikely that Atalanta will be the only club keeping a close eye on his development.
