Hearts have announced the signing of Aiden Haddow, swapping the Lowland League with the hoops for the Tynecastle equivalent.
With his Celtic deal expiring in May the offer of a contract until May 2026 has taken the midfielder east after starting 11 match in the Lowland League and two UEFA Youth ties for Stephen McManus’ side.
Hearts B team boss Angus Beith told the club website:
Aiden is a very exciting young player, who will add further competition to our midfield.
Technically, he is excellent, but more importantly he has that hunger and desire to learn and keep improving his game.
I’m delighted he’s with us and I’m looking forward to working with him.
That is a strong endorsement of Haddow with Celtic probably getting a cut of any future transfer fee in return for allowing the deal through in January.
Seventeen year old Fraser Wilson is the example that Haddow has to emulate, the young striker has scored five goals for the Hearts first team this season, including one in the UEFA Conference with four SPFL goals from seven starts and six substitute appearances.
The ‘pathway’ at Celtic is less secure with Owen Moffat away to St Mirren in December 2021 the last Academy player to come through to start a competitive match.
Moffat never played another minute for Celtic and is currently playing for Morton after spells at Blackpool and Dunfermline.
