Oxford United are reported to be keen on signing Maik Nawrocki on loan until the end of the season.

Now back in the Championship Oxford brought in Gary Rowett as manager, sparking a run of three successive wins to take them off bottom spot in the table.

After managing at Birmingham and Millwall, Rowett is seen as a Championship specialist and capable of turning the season round which seemed certain to be heading for relegation until he arrived before Christmas.

Nawrocki made a late substitute appearance in the League Cup win over Falkirk in September but has rarely featured in Celtic’s matchday squad in the SPFL, the last time that he was on the bench was away to Dundee United on December 22.

In the Daily Record transfer specialist Scott Burns reports:

Oxford United are keen on a deal for Celtic’s Maik Nawrocki.

The English Championship outfit want to land the Polish defender on-loan. The U’s scouting team after alerted manager Gary Rowett to the 23-year-old. Oxford want to strengthen their defence in their bid to help their survival bid.

He is keen to see if a deal can be done with the Hoops. Nawrocki is well down the pecking order. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales are all in front of Nawrocki.

There seems to be no future for Nawrocki at Celtic, in common with most of the other summer 2023 signings brought to the club by Mark Lawwell.

Should be move out it would free up a place in Celtic’s UEFA squad if they manage to progress into the Round of 16 Play Offs.

Stephen Welsh has already gone on loan to Mechelen but his place can only be taken by an Academy produced player with Dane Murray ticking that box.
