FIFA put the brakes on Celtic transfer deal

Rayo Vallecano’s hopes of signing Luis Palma look to be at an end after they were hit with a FIFA imposed transfer ban.

There had been strong speculation over the weekend that the Celtic winger was set to join the Madrid based side on loan but today a transfer embargo lasting three windows was put in place starting from January 9.

That decision is likely to be appealed against but it ends the suggestion that Palma could be in La Liga by the end of this week.

Honduran website Diaromas reports:

Honduran midfielder Luis Palma could see his move to Spanish football, specifically to the first division team Rayo Vallecano, thwarted.

The Madrid club, which had reached a loan agreement with an option to buy (valued at around 2.5 million euros) to acquire the services of Luis Palma until the end of the current season with Celtic of Scotland, has suffered a heavy sanction that prevents it from signing players.

FIFA announced on Monday that Rayo Vallecano and Mallorca will not be able to sign players for the next three transfer windows. The sanction came into effect on January 9 of this year.

The Estadio Deportivo and Golatev portals in Spain confirmed that the Honduran was going to be Rayo Vallecano’s first signing, but they were unaware of the FIFA fine.

Palma appeared as a substitute for Celtic last week against Dundee United but missed the match against Ross County due to a family bereavement.

With just one starting appearance in the SPFL Premiership this season it seems fairly clear that the Honduran winger has little prospect of resurrecting his Celtic career.

There has been suggestions of interest in Palma from clubs in the MLS, with their season not starting until April the MLS transfer window extends beyond the 31 January across most of Europe.

In recent seasons Celtic have made February moves to sell Giorgos Giakoumakis and Liel Abada to clubs in the MLS.

With a bit of confidence I think Palma could be a success.
Here is my team for tomorrow.

    Schmeichel

    Carter-Vickers- Trusty- Valle

    McCowan- Engels- Barnardo

    Kuhn- Kyogo- Idah- Maeda

    Why not experiment?

Substitute Forrest or Johnston (yes) for any midfielder when necessary.

      Valle in a back 3?
With injured Maeda and Kuhn having to play wing backs? (Substituted by an also injured Forrest.)
Three central midfielders that lack any creativity or defensive nous.

Face it Hatate is so inconsistent and out of form but when he plays at his best he will open up defences better than any of the three you name.

Cal Mac is also way from his best but he can control the tempo of the game better than most but Mc Cowan looks like can be that player, given more opportunities.

Engles looks OK as a support player but we broke our transfer record for him and up to this point looks like one of the dumbest moves the club have made in a while followed closely by paying a stupid amount for a “never was” striker that couldn’t hold down even a 3rd choice position at Norwich and has nothing in his history showing him to be worth even 3 million, save for a lucky season on loan to us.

We are lucky Sevco are in such disarray because in the two recent matches against them we looked ordinary. Since the last Euro game, we have looked as bad as we did when Rodgers bailed last time around. We flatter ourselves with results like the weekend’s 4-1 but for 89 mins we were locked at 1-1. If Sevco could do the job away against diddy teams, we would be in crisis mode at the moment and calls for Rodgers head would be getting louder by the day.

Don your last paragraph summed up why I am looking at alternative tactics.

My point is basically this. When you play against teams who “park the bus” you almost do not need a defensive midfield and all the “cleverness” of playing out from the back.
As an example, when Bernardo came on against Sevco in the final and rode that tackle/foul, charged towards goal and shot it is was a breath of fresh air. The result, Idah put in the rebound. This should be happening consistently rather than the nonsense of endless passing.

When McGregor was out injured for quite a while with the facial injury, the team started scoring for fun. I remember it well, as there was no-one to hold up the attacks and when he returned I believe we were beaten by St Mirren and the passing nonsense started again.

Only recently here some stated McGregor holds the team backs so I am not alone. The media have us all sold on the indispensability of the “captain”. You pays yer money and…

Charlie ye should have quit while you were ahead – after the word “success”.

I have already been told it would be a disaster by my Man City supporting grandson but what does he know, I have seen the Lisbon Lions so I have an idea of what entertaining football looks like.
Anything would be better than Hatate and McGregor in the midfield but I guess my main point is this. When you are this far ahead and know the opposition will be parking the bus you have to try new things ,

I don’t know if he will amount to anything but Vata might have stayed if he were used when we had the game won. Frimpong was another that was underused by Lennon.

Playing out from the back when the opposition has 11 men behind the ball is nothing short of comical.

Here we go again with the FAKE TRANSFER NEWS,Cerny valued at £8 million and out of sevco’s range financially, yet in the Summer apparently sevco had a bid £10 million knocked back by Plymouth for Morgan Whiitaker.

So how does the ibrox klub go from having £10 million available to spend on Whittaker in the Summer with the transfer falling through,to now not having £8 million to purchase Cerny.

    I blame the schools.

  • Jim M says:

Makes me wonder what Rayo Vallecano and Mallorca have done for FIFA to apply these sanctions when sevco have been trading while insolvent and made losses for 12 years after being shat into Scottish football.

    Just saying.

The EXACT same thought came into my head, and no doubt, the heads of countless other Scottish football supporters.
We all know the huns are handled with kid gloves by the SFA but it would seem also by EUFA.
Also, why are FIFA stepping on EUFA ‘s toes ?
