Phil Clement has started 2025 discussing his favourite subject, just like in 2024 the former Monaco flop has git his numbers all wrong.
Not that he’d be corrected by media manager Gordon Duncan, yesterday he was wearing his Sky Sports hat rather than his SFA outfit or Radio Clyde voice.
Clement has free reign to spout off all sorts of nonsense with the media messengers there to set up the softball questions for the high spending Ibrox boss.
For anyone interested since 30 June 2024 a net £13.4m has been spent on the second best team in Scotland, bringing in talents like Nedim Bajjami, Robin Propper, Hamza Igamane and Mohamed Diomande with a commitment to sign Oscar Cortes at the end of the season for £4m. That figure is in the Club Report, last week a fee of £600,000 was announced for Connor Barron.
Total transfer activity this season:
Celtic = -£5m
Rangers = + £14mAverage age of signings:
Celtic = 23 yrs
Rangers = 24 yrs https://t.co/q9R9DPV0Ft— Fr Jeb (@FrJeb) January 3, 2025
Like I said they have a squad that has been together for many years already. They replace one player from last season with two players and they’ve spend £30ms to make the depth in the squad bigger with more possibilities to make rotations.
Last season in December when they had to replace a few players, when Carter-Vickers was out they also lost points along the way.
So they’ve been building in a longer term in that way, now it is about us building as fast as possible to make the gap in the league smaller.
Brendan Rodgers managed his first SPFL match eight matches before Clement took his brand of waffling excuses to Ibrox.
Since taking over from Ange Postecoglou he has lost Jota, Aaron Mooy, Carl Starfelt and Matt O’Riley from the first picks that won the 2022/23 Treble.
Tellingly no questions were asked about Clement’s January war-chest, a fairly standard question at this time of year when given a one-to-one interview- unless you have been told not to ask ahead of austerity kicking in.
After getting rid of Sam Lammers, Connor Goldson, Todd Cantwell, Scott Wright and Robbie McCrorie in the summer new CEO Paddy Stewart is expected to get rid of at least five more significant wages with the club on course to exceed last season’s losses of £17.2m.

Never a good look, when a manager talks more about another team, than his own.
Deflection tactics as per from ibrox, this time to avoid talking about the lack of transfers-in.
One loanee to ibrox in January – at best?
Counting isn’t their strong suit over at ibrokes….
Aye but there’s one Count at Liebrox…

More likely to get the blind navigator than Rashford….
Does anyone know how the new huns stand with EUFA Financial Sustainability Rules?
We know they don’t have to play by the rules in Scotland but what about EUFA?
They’ve never made a profit since birth in 2012 but they have made significant losses year after year so does anyone know where they stand here?
