Top Daily Record reporters laugh off their ‘Chelsea swoop for Jefte’ story

Even the top reporters at the Daily Record are laughing at the alleged interest in Jefte from Chelsea.

With no sign of players arriving at Ibroxmedia partners The Rangers Review decided to publish the Chelsea swoop for Jetfe story with other Scottish publishers taking up the dog-whistle.

Every aspect of the move has been covered although anyone with the slightest grasp of reality knows that there is nothing in the story.

After claiming that Chelsea had contacted Jefte’s representatives Chris Jack reeled the story in by saying that the move was only at the ‘keeping tabs’ stage.

Everyone in football is keeping tabs, it is the basics of their job.

A Chelsea scout would have watched last week’s Europa League tie against Manchester United, that would be enough to slap the ‘keeping tabs’ claim onto the story.

Tuesday night’s Daily Record Hotline got round to discussing the ‘shock swoop’.

Later on at 39 minutes 40 seconds the dynamic duo keep the laughs in as they put the EPL swoops for the Ibrox aces on hold.

McDermott: I think that it will be the back burner for both of them. Listen, I know that we are kind of laughing about Chelsea, I don’t think that Chelsea would come in for Jefte right away, him going down there are going into the squad right away, that’s not going to happen.

Jackson: No, but they do have a habit of going and looking at these sort of younger players, of all nationalities. The information is solid, there has been discussion of sorts.

McDermott: They are linked with players at clubs abroad, Jefte, he is still only 20

Jackson: He looks older doesn’t he?

McDermott: He does, 20 years old

McDermott: LAUGHS OUT LOUD. 20-year-old Brazilian, and listen, I said, Jefte has had good games and bad games, I think that he’s had a lot of good games for Rangers and he’s been an excellent signing. And I said when he first came in, whatever you might think of him, you knew that he was going to have deficiencies defensively, you say in pre-season, Man U at Murrayfield, a bit naive but that can come, that can develop, he’s only 20 years old.

Jefte has time on his side, it wouldn’t surprise me if big clubs are looking from abroad and it is the same with Igamane.

For any clubs keeping tabs on Scottish football they’ll note that Greg Taylor, Lewis Mayo and James Penrice and better SPFL left-backs than the Brazilian Tavernier.

Jefte is 21 and won’t be joining Chelsea or any other EPL club, a £3m move to a club in Belgium, France or Portugal will be as good as it gets as his transfer follows the template set out by Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.

Play mediocre in Europe.
Fall miles behind in the league and most likely win nothing this season.
