Alan Muir- the evidence mounts up

In one of his first jobs as Head of Refereeing Willie Collum promoted Alan Muir into a full time VAR job, joining Andrew Dallas and Greg Aitken in the elite group.

In four and a half seasons in Scottish football Brendan Rodgers has lost just one cup tie, at Kilmarnock last season in the League Cup.

Greg Taylor was off the pitch getting treatment for a forearm smash at the time of the goal, at the final whistle it was handshakes all round from Muir as he celebrated with Derek McInnes.

Since the 2015 Scottish Cup semi-final against Inverness Caley Thistle Celtic fans have been keeping an eye on Muir. There is only one explanation for ‘missing’ the handball from Josh Meekings and it wasn’t an honest mistake.

Earlier this season there was a classic example of Muir’s inability to apply the Laws of the Game.

When Celtic played Motherwell match referee David Dickinson allowed a ‘goal’ from Daizen Maeda to stand after the striker sort of fell onto the ball in the build up.

Muir was sharp enough to notice that the ball had gone into the net off Maeda’s hand, strangely he never noticed the push from Stephen O’Donnell that put Maeda into a horizontal position.

Following the League Cup Final Muir has been blackballed from matches involving Phil Clement’s exciting young side, it looks like he’ll be getting a month long break from Celtic matches before being appointed for a low profile home fixture.

And yet the daily rat published a photo any 12yo would be able to mock up in graphics class. Its so obvious a fake to even blind fred ffs!. So much is the hatred of celtic at the daily rat that they in desperation to throw shade print this abomination.

There are digital media protection laws designed to prevent incitement or hatred and let me tell you printing that stolen photo from x fails that law hands down.

Are we now to be subjected to manipulated photos anytime there is a debated call or is that reserved only for Celtic plc.

At corner kicks, placing the ball so that its nearest edge is right on the outer edge of the white line is standard practice…..checked by the linesman and deemed to be ok (legal).
    Goal should have stood.

  • Lou Beau says:

As you rightly say Joe there is loads of history with this guy. His smile at the end of that game against Kilmarnock said it all. I can even remember the penalty he gave Partick Thistle when Frimpong clearly took the ball cleanly. An absolutely disgraceful decision.

  • Frankie says:

Will Brendan have to go this alone again without any backing from our spineless board like the comments about cheating Beaton the last time sevco no money but they cause so much eruptions on this type of thing the sfa shite themselves to try to please them it is about time the spineless ones do something about Muir.

  • John welsh says:

The only outcome, for muir, is sack him. Remove his registration. Give him NO, professional games. He can still earn money, by youth and amateur games. If not, it will show how deep the corruption is. 1. Dessers penalty 2. Hearts non- penalty leading to goal 3.celtic goal(line)

The board has allowed this to happen, why would they say anything now?

  • Jungle veteran says:

Does anyone know if we can refuse to pay for VAR? Not just asking this on the strength of yesterday, personally think both goals were avoidable but the game is done.. I’m asking because as league winners we pay the most for this impartial decision maker.. (cough, cough).. surely we can tell them to K off..

  • Eddie says:

So, St. Johnstone v Hearts. Linesman gives offside, wrong, but you go with the officials decision. Our game THEY DO NOT!!

  • Dando says:

Let’s put this “Sevco collapsed last season” to bed

Celtic’s record in all comps from Xmas eve, eve till they lifted the Scottish Cup…….

    P25 W21 D3 L1

I’d say that a team with those stats are deserved league & cup winners.

EVERY single dodgy decision should be highlighted and logged with the SPL by Celtic win/lose or draw to avoid the sour grapes theory.
If this had been standard practice, Muir’s position would already be untenable, or certainly it would be obvious he should never officiate at a game involving Celtic.
If these “mistakes” were logged, you wouldn’t just see a pattern if what refs were doing it, you would also see who they made sure was disadvantaged by it most often.
Staying silent just isn’t an option any more, if there was only a point or two in a league race, and they win yesterday, they leapfrog…..I used to think Italian football officials were the dodgiest in the world, but they did it for cash…our lot do it for handshakes.

  • The Joker says:

Gordon Duncan the SSB anchor man is also picking up a coin through the SFA doing media work fir them, actually backed up Muir the bigot yesterday.
So don’t be expecting to hear anything different from Collum&Co when this matter is addressed if it ever gets addressed that is,especially when their media man is getting it out there before Collum that there is nothing to see here.
Duncan a HUN but making out he is Motherwell supporter.

    • Terence Nova says:

As others have said…and I’m sick of saying it…Our Club must make an OFFICIAL complaint when things like this happen…and demand retrospective action…That decision was a joke…and it needs highlighting…Sending BR out with statements is not the way to solve this.

  • tam says:

The SFA/SPFL and VAR used a camera at18 yard line to disallow a goal and show the ball was out….omg.
Thank god the ball wasn’t 3 feat in the air from the view the SFA/SPFL and VAR used it would appear to be in the 2 row of the STAND.. nothing will happen to Muir….as I’ve said before….if the punishment for cheating or getting things wrong….is No punishment…..why stop

  • Tony B says:

Whether the ball was in or out is irrelevant.

The only thing that matters is on what evidence did Muir base his decision to overrule the referee’s decision.

Unless he is able to provide conclusive evidence on which he based that decision, then he has to give account of his actions.

    Show us the proof.
