Out of thin air the Daily Record has conjured up a £4m price tag for Ianis Hagi!

That is the midfielder that was touted across Europe on the back of his performances at the 2024 European Championships without any takers.

The Hagi that is available as a free agent at the end of May, the Hagi that never made it into Phil Clement’s squad for the Europa League.

Almost since he arrived at Ibrox on loan in January 2020 Hagi’s Dad and agents have been trying to get him into a top league.

Last season’s spell on loan to the Alaves substitute bench never did his case any favours.

There is of course always the loyal and unquestioning backing of the Daily Record to slap a few layers of gloss onto anything at Ibrox.

During a summary of possible transfer activity the Record claims:

Ianis Hagi

Rangers resolve could also be tested over if they wish to keep Ianis Hagi. As it stands, the playmaker will be out of contract in the summer with reports in Italy suggesting a late bid from Genoa could be on the cards with a late £4m bid.

There really isn’t much interest in a slow paced, 26-year-old midfielder that has failed to make any positive impact in Italy, Belgium or Spain. The novelty of his surname has very limited use.

So far in the transfer window a number of B team players have been moved out with Kieran Dowell going into League One on loan in England and Rabbi Matondo to Bundesliga 2.

Paddy Stewart has yet to make any significant cuts to the wage bill or bring in any transfer fee.

The remaining 40 hours of the Transfer Window will see desperate measures around Ibrox with buying clubs well aware that five top players were sold last summer for a combined sum of £810,000.
