Did Tav go early with his penalty celebrations?

No-one has had more practise of taking penalties than James Tavernier.

The former Wigan ace has a place secured in the folklore of Scottish football thanks to an incredible run of decisions while Crawford Allan was in charge of refereeing at the SFA.

‘Penalty to Rangers’ and ‘Tavpen’ are in every day usage among fans while legacy media celebrate the highest scoring defender in the history of British football.

With time running out in the Scottish Cup tie against Queens Park Calum Scott stepped up in the moment of need, pointing to the penalty spot just as the fifth minute of stoppage time was completed.

After the formalities of a VAR check it was time for Tav to do his thing with one user on X noticing something unusual about his routine.

As well as the silly wee running on the spot ritual it seems like he had started the first stage of his celebration just before Callum Ferrie dived to his left to save the shot and guarantee legendary status.

Afterwards, in a change of script, the club captain described the result as unacceptable.

With a contract running until May 2026 Tav will be around for a few more disappointments as Celtic push of further into the sunset.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Bummer draw, really wanted Queens Park at Celtic Park. Imagine the reception they would have gotten ? would have been something to see. Given it’s the Dons I still have hope of at least meeting them.
