Adam Idah has denied that his confidence took a hit during a 14 match run without scoring.
That figure was seized upon by critics but as ever overlooks a number of key facts, the main one being that he shared Celtic’s striking duties with Kyogo Furuhashi.
During that spell Idah scored in the penalty shoot out that delivered the League Cup and had a hugely significant role in the own goal from YB Bern that earned Celtic a place in the Champions League Play Offs.
That evidence is fairly substantial but all strikers live off goals with the former Norwich man going into tomorrow’s match against Bayern Munich with a record of four goals in his last three matches.
After being rested from the Scottish Cup tie against Raith Rovers Idah is a certain starter against Bayern, looking back on that goal-less winter spell Idah told the Daily Mail:
Everyone seemed to think my confidence was down, but it wasn’t. I’ve been through this before and I think some fans are fairly quick to judge players. I think they forget a lot of things and I understand it.
I’m a football fan myself and you do get carried away with things. But I think from experiencing this, it’s just doing what you’re good at and to keep working hard.
I suppose when I was a bit younger, I would probably struggle a bit.
Right now, no matter what you do, I think there’s always going to be people that are complaining.
I even saw the other day that some people were complaining that I didn’t smile after I scored, so there’s always something.
I think as a football player you just have to learn to brush past it and just keep doing what you’re doing.
In his first year at Celtic Idah has delivered many big goals including three in the Champions League, another goal or two against Bayern on Wednesday won’t do his confidence any harm.
Great player. You imagine our team just now without him!
