John Gilligan has been removed from the board of The Rangers International Football Club, two months after stepping aside as Chairman.
The former Tennent Caledonian Executive was drafted in as Chairman in August 2024 after John Bennett walked away, shortly after Phil Clement was given an improved contract running until May 2028.
While the existing directors refused to step up to take on the role of Chairman Gilligan was appointed to reassure fans with his reputation for being a ‘right good blue nose’.
Gilligan chaired the AGM at the start of December before Fraser Thornton took over, yesterday in a statement to Companies House his exit from the Board of Directors was announced.
With three days left of the transfer window Rafael Fernandes on loan from Lille is the only addition to Phil Clement’s exciting young squad with little hope of any further additions before the 11pm deadline on Monday.
That is in contrast to the picture portrayed to Sky Sports by Gilligan in September:
Will there be funds to spend in January?
“We’re trying to bring stability to the player trading model to try to improve it and I think the manager we’ve got is the man to do that.
“There will be [money for Clement to spend in January]. I think with any manager at any football club, if you can sell and make a profit then it helps with the buying. It doesn’t depend on it but it certainly adds to it and helps with the whole opportunity of improving.
“We keep talking about the player trading model because ideally we want to be able to bring in players and get them to play properly for the team and do well, but hopefully we sell them on and reinvest.
“We’ll have accounts coming out quite soon and at the AGM, it will become apparent that the financial sustainability is solid.”
That solid financial sustainability saw a loss of £17.2m recorded with this season on track to be closer to £30m than £20m.
Think the former Tennent’s executive might have been “getting high on his own supply”…..
No surprise there: he can get back to the bowling now?
Teasing aside, I bet he regrets getting involved again at ibrox,
and he probably gets no thanks whatsoever from the bears – only growls? 🙂
He hasn’t recovered from poking a billionaire with his forked tongue in the executive lounge at Hampden in April 2016…
He’s had Brendan to contend with ever since !
Many the times your words and past come back to haunt you.
Karma is s bitch!!
I love Karma
Indeed Thomas !
