It isn’t just Michael Nicholson and Peter Lawwell that have had a horrendous Transfer Window.
This morning Brendan Rodgers has to plot his way through till the end of the season with one natural striker, instead of KT in defence he has JS with a short term loan from Crystal Palace bailing him out after Barcelona recalled Alex Valle.
On the evening of January 22 Celtic gave the green light to Rennes to finalise the terms for Kyogo Furuhashi’s transfer.
It could have been the boldest of moves- surely Celtic had a successor lined up- but as the days passed by it was clear that Nicholson and Lawwell were in a flap with every club and agent pointing and laughing in their direction.
January is suposedly notoriously difficult to extract top players from clubs but a side in the bottom half of the French League had just signed a Champions League striker!
Not only that but the selling club hadn’t even bothered sourcing a replacement such was their joy at adding £10m to the heaving bank account.
Fortunately for the Celtic Executives there is always one source that will sing their praises, Keith Jackson is yer man to get a message out to 44,000 Daily Record readers.
On January 27, the morning of the Jota/Kogo sale/swap there was no holding back Jackson as he saluted Celtic’s boardroom giants
With one week still to go before the end of the January sales, it’s beginning to feel as if Celtic are showboating around their own boardroom already.
Put it this way, it doesn’t take much of a stretch of the imagination to envisage chairman Peter Lawwell doing keepy-uppies at one end of the big oak table and CEO Michael Nicholson lollipopping stepovers and nutmegging a chair at the other.
Because right now the pair of them are smashing the window to pieces while enabling manager Brendan Rodgers to take his team to an entirely new level. And, let’s face it, Scotland’s champions were already some considerable distance ahead of all the rest before Lawwell and Nicholson started pulling all manner of rabbits out of their respective hats.
It’s worth stating here the sleight of hand involved in pulling this all together has been nothing short of remarkable. Having been bounced against their will into sanctioning the sale of talisman Kyogo Furuhashi, Celtic’s hierarchy have responded in rapid and emphatic fashion.
It doesn’t take much sleight of hand to fool the award winning Chief Sports Writer at the Daily Record.
Throw him a few paragraphs about a wealthy guy from Motherwell or the promise of a stunning transfer window and he is more than capable of applying top spin and a few layers of gloss.
Brendan Rodgers faces the media today to preview Wednesday’s match against Dundee, it remains to be seen whether he will soft soap the failings of his CEO or distant himself from the latest transfer shambles directed by Nicholson & Lawwell.
We alway are told it’s difficult to buy in January but Celtic have no problem selling in January.
The clubs buying our players have no difficulty.
Lol we did the exact same bit of business as sevco, git shot of a pile of players all be it a bit of cash for them and brought 1 player in,the only difference is sevco got fuck all cash for theirs.
The method in our clubs MADNESS here is this, they can’t be seen to stretch to far away from sevco as LIEWELL &Co know they need sevco’s blue pound, they blow them out the water, the league becomes a walkover like previously when Rangers died, top tiers of the foitball stadium closed as there was no challenge from Rangers as they are dead,an?d 60,000 stadium becomes a 30,000 stadium that’s a lot of cash to lose.
So we are where we are at this time, neck and neck with sevco in signings with players in and out, this league ain’t won yet there is still a long way to go,just look at those decisions at the weekend for a start.
We can still make a James Hunt of the league, and that will be on the board not parting with a coin, but not to worry, because the BENJAMINS we have innour support will still be fighting each other to renew their season books leaving LIEWELL&Co laughing all the way to Tom Hank, with sevco running us neck&neck for the title.
Oh and don’t be surprised to see Ted walk away before the end of the season,he has done it before so he has form for it.
RANT OVER DON’T SHOOT THE MESSENGER.
Let’s face it here are we any better than sevco, take cash away in the bank for a minute, look at the players we got mentioned with since that start of January and nothing came of them.
We sat back and laughed at the sevco klub and who they could put bids in for and who they are being linked with and going to sign, and yet fuck all came of that and we pished ourselves laughing.
So are we any better,we had our own little game of TRANSFER BINGO which amounted to fuck all.
All I can say is people in glass houses.
Awright there Joker,I’m with you on this, the league is no way guaranteed that we will win it,all it needs is a couple of injuries and all the var and ref decisions going against us and for sevco, one more point for all the happy clappers board psychophants out there,do they think if the Huns had 70 to 90 million in the bank ,their board would sit on it ? No way they would spend it and blow us out of the water knowing if they did they would be favourites for CL every season.im still not sure where BR is in all this farce ,I thought he had some clout with golf heed desmond, obviously not or he’s just happy to do what he’s told by big Pete and keep taking his vast salary.
Hi Jim the fans are to blame fir this as well, they keep buying season books, mean the 2 CHISLERS,Liewell and Nicholson laugh and run all the way to the bank with the cash.
As I said we laughed at sevco fir them having a shitey transfer window,we are actually worse,we have the cash but just won’t spend it.
Shifty&Shady in our boardroom servedctheir time learning how to CHISEL from Sqint Eastwood over at sevco.
You are as entertaining as a kick in the balls
I’ve read 3 articles this morning, each has an excitable (negative) narrative on our club…
Now, I agree that not bringing a striker in to replace Kyogo is a mistake. However, all the articles basically ignore the fact that we have a little guy in our team that has 15 caps for Japan in the last few years as a CF…….
We have enough haters out there without adding to their agenda, signing KT, Jota, and a premier league player is hardly a disaster window……
I am proud that my club doesn’t sign players on overhyped wages that we can’t get rid of for years (Dessers/Ajeti), just so fans are appeased……
HH
A strong whiff of hun coming from you
Keep biting.
It’s tedious boring shite from you every day.
That’s it just keep biting,if it’s shite stop reading it and commenting on it.
Every generation of celtic gets a shafting from the board over replacing the top goal getters. I remember expecting maybe them to buy in a good replacement foe henk. Got him for next to nothing and had 7 years World class service. Henri camara came in on loan from wolves to wear the no7 jersey the next season.
The failure to even try to replace Larsson that summer resulted in us losing the league title in a photo-finish and causing O’Neill to throw in the towel and walk. Of course we had acquired a very astute new CEO a matter of months prior to that summer window…..
As soon as Bayern were our opponents the tin slammed shut.
Personally I think if we had landed an eminently more beatable team, money wuda been spent.
Not going any further therefore PL would see no need to spend his bonus, one cup already bagged, 13 ahead in the lge, and a gd chance of a treble.
I would never advocate spending mountains of cash to compete in the SPL basically but surely maintaining a status quo is the bare minimum instead of weakening?
one tier was closed lisbon lions upper stand.
That guy Jackson probably knew they’d read his pish pot and believe him…
And clearly the bastards have done just that !
There seems to be a misconception that Barcelona recalled Alex Valle , they didn’t. It was up to Celtic whether Alex stayed at the club or sent him back to Barca , Celtic opted to sent him back.
