Johnny Kenny has closed the door on his Shamrock Rovers career with an emotional message to fans of the Dublin club.
The striker enjoyed a highly productive year with Rovers highlighted by an impressive run in the Europa Conference with Kenny scoring four goals in their campaign into the Round of 16 Play Offs.
His loan deal expired at the end of December but the 21-year-old was still in the plans of Rovers throughout the transfer window as they followed Celtic’s attempts to sign a striker to replace Kyogo Furuhashi.
Brendan Rodgers was left disappointed, Jeffrey Schlupp was the only Deadline Day Deal.
Almost by default Kenny became Celtic’s third choice striker, that closed the door on another Rovers return and also St Mirren who were looking to get the young striker on loan for a four month sample of the SPFL Premiership.
Must be buzzing wae how highly Rodgers spoke at presser, hopefully gets the minutes that gives him a fair crack at grabbing the chance

The Irish Examiner reported:
Johnny Kenny has bid farewell to Shamrock Rovers after the prospect of a third loan spell from Celtic to Tallaght was scotched by Brendan Rodgers.
Kenny returned to his parent club on January 1, making his debut a few days later in the Cup game against Ross County.
Rovers boss Stephen Bradley was seeking to have the services of Kenny for his quest to regain the title they relinquished to Shelbourne, as well as the Uefa Conference League playoff against Molde on February 13 and 20, but Celtic want the Sligo native onboard for the a busy second half of the season.
The former Ireland U21 striker moved to Scotland on a five-year deal from his local club Sligo Rovers in January 2022 and after three loan spells, he is finally making headway at Parkhead.
Should Michael Nicholson lead Celtic's Summer 2025 Transfer Window business?
Yes, he has priceless experience, the only man for the job

No, never again, his failings are piling higher and higher

Rodgers spoke enthusiastically about Kenny during Tuesday’s media conference but since his return to Celtic Kenny has only played for 17 minutes, away to Ross County in a 4-1 win.
Daizen Maeda looks like he will be the alternative striker to Adam Idah but starting tonight against Dundee Kenny will be hoping to advance his case after an unlikely trail of events during January.
On February 13 and 20 Rovers play Molde for a place in the last 16 of the Europa Conference without the striker that scored five times in their successful group campaign.

Why doesn’t Brendan Rodger’s play Idah and Kenny upfront together giving Kenny experience while learning and idah to help him score goals if they click together they could be a frightening pair
