The Sun has claimed that it would only cost £1m to sack and pay off Phil Clement.
There is virtually no backing for the current Ibrox boss from supporters, after the defeat from Queens Park even fan media reps were asking Clement if he was going to resign.
Having signed a new contract on the eve of the season the former Monaco boss has a guaranteed income through until May 2028, not many folk walk away from that sort of windfall.
A deal worth at least £2m a year would surely have been negotiated when the new contract was signed off which leaves Clement in line for almost £7m just for turning up at his work.
Paying that amount up front would be a serious struggle but The Sun has good news regarding the severance terms of Clement’s deal.
On Monday night they reported:
RANGERS will have to stump up around £1.2million to sack Philippe Clement.
The beleaguered Belgian is on the brink after Queen’s Park produced one of the biggest Scottish Cup upsets of all time.
Furious Gers supporters staged protests outside Ibrox after their fallen heroes were dumped by the Championship side on Sunday.
But Clement is going nowhere unless the cash-strapped club’s board can fund his seven-figure pay-off.
After agreeing a shock extension in the summer, the 50-year-old gaffer has three-and-a-half years left to run on his contract.
And SunSport understands that eye-watering compensation package is one of the main reasons he is still in a job.
If that figure is eye-watering I don’t know how you would describe the £4m that Lens are due in the summer for Oscar Cortes. In 13 months at Ibrox the Colombian has started just six SPFL matches and is expected to resume full training in the next 7/10 days.
With 13 SPFL matches left to fulfil there is nothing to play for at Ibrox with fans openly revolting against their players, the management and the Board of Directors.
CEO Paddy Stewart vowed to stand by Clement when he spoke to the media last month but that pledge is under serious strain.
Season Ticket renewals are due to go out in April, if there is a low take up action will need to be taken to bring in a popular Blue Nose as manager such as Barry Ferguson, John Brown or Alex Rae.

We went live almost straight after yesterday’s match, it had been arranged well in advance but as they say timing is everything.

SSB was brilliant last night the callers were COMEDY GOLD and didn’t disappoint, even auld Tenalady Heevins was COMEDY GOLD when all is lost to sevco in Scotland, but they can still win the Europa league as Spurs and Man U are rubbish.
Sevco can’t beat Queens Park at ibrox but they are going to win the Europa league, that’s it then,I’m off to the bookies Queens Park to win the Scottish Cup and I will double it with them winning the Europa league next season.
One million…just as well being a billion..
He’s going nowhere..
They will never learn..
Scotlands paupers..?
Ocans razor….the reason he’s still in a job is because he’s succeeding in what he’s been tasked to do.
I.e. manage the team during a period of down sizing and massive cost cutting.
Phil is doing a great job keeping them in touch with Celtic and they’re doing well in Europe.
If they listened to what the chairman is saying then they’d realise this.
They have no option but to do down this route, none.
What do the sevco fans think will happen, sack a manger who’s willing to work with zero budget and find a new top manager who’ll demand a massive transfer budget?
Read the room !!!
Well said Mr Smith! King blew the bank to stop us doing 10 in a row and they are now paying the price. Even with a pot to piss in, I doubt a Dream Team of Bankrupt Barry, Nosferatu and a guy whose last contribution of note was standing outside Ibrox shouting “Where’s ‘Ra deeds??!!” like a shambling jakie down the park, I doubt results would be better. Without one, not even all the staunch points in the world will save them from a baying mob a few disastrous results in. They’d be better getting Murty on the Batphone FFS!!!
They bang on about wanting new investment but they’ve pissed away over £100m “Real Rainjurz Men’s” money since their tribute act was founded in 2012.
Not only have they not learned of the dangers of going down that route from the death of Rangers 1.0, but they don’t seem to get that that kind of sugar daddy finance isn’t a viable option any more. Financial Sustainability Rules mean living within your means and I believe they are still on the UEFA watchlist for that. I don’t imagine that the several rounds of confetti share issues snd soft loans since then have escaped UEFA’s attention.
Gardening leave Imminent …with Murts standing by his phone in rabid anticipating ! You old gymnast ..you !
Thanks BriBhoy. It’s obvious when you stand back and look at it objectively.
The insane amount of money they gave wasted chasing Celtic is and never have been sustainable.
They should be thankful they had some rich bitter huns willing to throw their famillies inheritance at stopping the ten.
They should have been less worried about stopping the ten and more worried about building for the future.
They might have stopped the ten but mark my works they wont stop it this time, we could see 15 in a row by the time they get their house in order.
What a time to be a Celt. Hail Hail.
P.S. ( Ocam’s razor, not Ocans )
P.P.S.
It’s worth noting we are entering one of the biggest recessions in history whilst the country cant afford benefits, public sector pensions, maintain the infrastructure etc.
2007-2012 could look like a picnic in the park in comparison.
Celtic are wise to hoard their cash right now.
Gold is the money of kings,
silver is the money of gentlemen,
barter is the money of peasants
– but debt is the money of slaves
The perfect storm has erupted at ibrokes, just need the klanbase to do walking away to speed up the ending of sevco .
The grim reaper is sharpening his scythe,
AGAIN.
If Lurch was going to get punted, you’d think it would have happened by now?
Yes, he’s doing the job he signed up for: managing a squad in decline.
Maybe the tricky bit is trying to gauge if ST sales will be significantly impacted if
he’s still the manager when the renewals go out…?
I think they will just “resign” him like they did with Warbuton and Weir. Who’s going to complain?
Warburton’s recent interview was hysterical as he explained they shafted him but he loves the club and he stopped short of saying if he was actually paid in full.
All ex- employees are terrified of saying anything that might be construed as a criticism.
A good result in Europe might calm things down a bit and he seems not the type to “walk away” so interesting times ahead.
.
It’s times like these that you really get see how their media lapdogs operate huh
The Sun is just a liar like the rest of The Scummy’s !
