MUNICH, GERMANY - FEBRUARY 18: Celtic's Reo Hatate and Bayern Munich's Josip Stanisic in action during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Knockout Play-off second leg match between FC Bayern Munich and Celtic at the Allianz Arena, on February 18, 2025, in Munich, Germany. Sharing an image from the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night Reo Hatate added the message ‘Limitless possibilities’.
Three years after joining Celtic the midfielder rarely gives any interviews in English but appeared to be in contemplative mode as he surveyed 10 high quality matches at the highest possible club level.
Last season Hatate suffered from a couple of muscle injuries, he played in the defeats against Feyenoord and Lazio then suffered a hamstring tear four minutes into the home draw with Atletico Madrid, his experience matched that of the team overall.
Hatate has started nine of Celtic’s 10 Champions League matches, four players started all of the games with Brendan Rodgers building an impressive core with the Japanese midfielder key to that, alongside Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate.

Limitless possibilities is an open comment, hopefully it is a look towards next season and a return to the Champions League via the Play Off, one round home and away.
There is of course another option, Kyogo Furuhashi has moved on from Celtic after being the modern Japanese pioneer.
His experience at Rennes is a lesson that transfers don’t always work out, especially in January.
Without any concrete offers surfacing there has been suggestions that Hatate has an eye on the next move, preferably to one of the top European leagues.
His Champions League performances have raised his profile, hopefully the limitless possibilities refer to Celtic’s future Champions League options, not a move to Germany or elsewhere.

Mbappe heading to ibrox, with Donald Trump and Mr Musk, the takeover is now in full swing.
Hatate is a shadow of the player he was. Needs a long rest or loaned
Absolute nonsense.
Hatate has been asked to cover more ground than ever before. He did that so well on Tuesday.
He still has that tendency to play a misplaced pass which can be very damaging at CL level but possesses the ability to open up defences. We don’t have another player with that vision.
He is a fantastic player who is improving under the managers guidance.
I concur wholeheartedly,I thought he was impressive against Bayern on Tuesday night. Covered every blade of grass. Tackling back even winning headers at corners against us, never stopped.
Guys right
The teams evolved he hasn’t. He was our risk taker that made things happen .
Now 1 in 6 creative passes reaching intended target leaving us chase shadows .
False economy.
10 million I’d sell .Bernard more economical with ball and use cash to buy the lad Miller and ease him in over 18 months .McCowan for cover
Eldraco, I agree he’s only a shadow of the player he CAN be but isn’t often enough and I think his ego has gone up while his play has certainly diminished since his injuries.
We all know he’s a huge talent but it’s GOT to be shown with consistency and isn’t currently. He gave the ball away countless times vs Bayern and many other games this season. He did ONE excellent defensive header midweek but one header a player does not make. He also ran about a lot with little point or product. Hence I agree with you and dismiss the 2 below (at time of writing) as, more or less, bollox!
BTW, IMHO Engels showed his quality in the 1st half especially and will only improve. Genuine prospects of a future ‘star’. The team in general was outstanding and showed what we’re capable of, as we did vs Leipzig. Looking forward to Saturday lunchtime and hoping not too many ‘hangovers’ from what was a drastic end to the match with the ref a disgrace allowing Upemecano to do that to Daizen and it cost us at least extra time and who knows what? And that same bastard got away with a cert yellow maybe red and a pen to us at CP when he intentionally tried to hurt Engels. Ggrrrrrrr!
You must watch a different game than me,he is in my opinion the best player we have.
Aye James, I watch fitba and understand the game.
What is it you watch?
Reo’s capable but thinks he’s far, far better than what he produces weekly (weakly?)
And he’s currently costing others their chance. I’d punt him and never look back.
constantly gives the ball away especially at this level
When someone gives the ball away 6 times out of 7 which is the norm for Hatate, he is effectively playing for the opposition. So BR is attempting to do well in Europe with 10 men against 12, not counting the officials.
Their manager subbed Harry Kane for heavens sake!
Is there some reason my comments are not included today? Posted before without any problem.
In my view Reo has not improved this season, and has been quite a liability for his main weakness, which is giving the ball away frequently. Rangers at Ibrox a very good example, last night he did make a great effort but still gave away the ball at crucial moments.
Johnston another player popular with fans but often caught out of position. Posted missing when Kane scored at CP, and lost Davies in the 94th minute on Tuesday night.
Both players treated with greater favour than others (e.g. Bernardo and Ralston) by our fans imo
I don’t know how long Reo has Left in his contract although he got the original one extended I think anyone know
He signed a 5 yr contract in 2023
