Jesus Gil Manzano will referee Celtic’s Champions League Play Off match against Bayern Munich.

The Spanish whistler was in charge of the group stage matches between Aston Villa and Juventus in November followed by the Matchday 6 clash between AC Milan and Red Star Belgrade.

Manzano has refereed 18 matches this season, including 11 in La Liga with just two red cards issued.

Celtic go into Wednesday’s match with the massive boost of having Daizen Maeda available after he was initially suspended from the clash.

The Japanese internationalist was sent off in the closing minutes of the 1-0 win over YB Bern.

That automatically comes with a one match suspension but after reviewing it UEFA upgraded it to a two match ban.

It had been assumed that that was that but late on Monday night Celtic announced that they had successfully appealed against that decision.

With Maeda in outstanding form Brendan Rodgers can now start the match with Jota on the bench knowing that he has a top quality winger to come on in the final quarter of the match after starting with Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn.

Celtic will train in front of the cameras today with Brendan Rodgers hosting a pre-match media conference early this afternoon.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
