Over the past few seasons Celtic have made good business from the transfer window loan market as we have effectively ‘tried before we buyed’ when we were running a proper rule over players and truly seeing if they could adjust to life in the Scottish game, and more importantly live up to our expectations and requirements given the standards we try to abide by.
Whilst 32 year old, 20 capped Ghanaian international, Jeffrey Schlupp is not our usual sort of loan capture owing to his age, he has great experience in the English Premier League following his spells with both Leicester City and Crystal Palace, and when he was made available in the New Year we jumped in with a late move to bring his wide ranging knowledge and versatility to Parkhead for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.
For those fans who like a flutter, or even dabbling with online casino games given their growth, UK slots online are always a popular option and Schlupp is likely to become a popular member of the group. He is predominantly a left back, but across his career he has covered left wing back, left midfield, central midfield, left wing and even centre forward, so it is pretty obvious as to why gaffer Brendan Rodgers would have been interested in him to help pad out his options for the final few months.
He came in from Selhurst Park fit and raring to go having got good time at Palace this season, only really dropping out of contention in mid-January when it was pretty obvious his future would lie elsewhere, and having arrived at the beginning of February he has already started to impress in his three starts and three substitute showings.
Having bedded in quite nicely at Celtic Park, and with it being known that for all intents and purposes the Scottish Premiership title is ours once again, thoughts are slowly beginning to turn to the summer and what our transfer business ma be come the end of the season, and with a good few year left in his tank yet, Schlupp’s own future is slowly becoming a topic of conversation.
Not least because he is available as a free transfer come the break as he is now within the final six months of his contract with the Eagles. Hoops fans will have opinions of their own on this front, and naturally we will have to see what thoughts are planning through the gaffer’s mind, but from the sound of things Schlupp himself would be very happy to stay given the welcome that he has been given in his opening month with us.
Having had a brief taste of Champions League life at Celtic given his involvement in the clash with Bayern Munich, he would also dearly love to experience more nights like those before he ultimately begins to look at hanging his own boots up in the next few years. Naturally, he would like to avoid the very end of that game though even if he knew the entire playing group could be incredibly proud of themselves.
The player did also admit that right now the future was out of his hands, and he confirmed that no talks had taken place about what would happen at the end of the loan but that is simply because there is silverware up for grabs and that has to be the focus for everyone right now.
Not long before everyone finds out what the future holds.
