Chris Sutton is looking for Paul Tisdale, break his cover and burst into action when the summer transfer window opens.

Hired in the autumn as the Head of Football Operations nothing has been heard of the former Exeter boss who had an undefined role in the transfer activities of last summer.

January was uneventful at Celtic, former player Jota was signed, another, Kieran Tierney signed a pre-contract deal with Jeff Schlupp, after a decade in the EPL brough in on loan for the problem left-back position.

While Jota strengthened options on the wing the sale of Kyogo Furuhashi left Rodgers down one striker although Daizen Maeda has taken on that role with a rush of goals.

Had a ready made striker been signed in January to compliment Maeda on the left there is every chance that Celtic could have scored a second goal in Munich to knock Bayern out of the Champions League.

With almost a year inside the club Celtic fans will be looking for Tisdale to deliver over the summer ahead of a Champions League Play Off in the second half of August.

Setting out his expectations in the Daily Record, Sutton writes

The problem for Rodgers last Sunday was he didn’t really have much scope to change things from his bench.
Paulo Bernardo was a loss but, in general, Celtic’s squad looked a little light.

All this strengthens Rodgers’ hand for the summer. I know Kieran Tierney is coming in but it shows there is work to be done.

Celtic are in a superb position in that they pretty much know the title is in the bag.

That means the Champions League planning has to be happening now. Who knows what kind of backing Rangers will get from the 49ers as well.

Celtic brought in Paul Tisdale to sort out the recruitment after Rodgers admitted in recent years it hasn’t been up to scratch.

Well, now we’ll find out what the football doctor is all about. Rodgers has his work cut out to achieve again next season – and it will be far from easy.

The requirements for the summer transfer window have been known for some time as has the route to another Champions League campaign.

By September it will become clear if Celtic have recovered from the disastrous recruitment of Mark Lawwell in the summer of 2023, this season there has been just 10 starting SPFL appearances from Lawwell’s signings- spread between Yang Hyun-jun, Luis Palma and Maik Nawrocki.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

The only ready made striker was costing 14 million and his club were taking the piss in january , a lot of risk and money as i see it for one game in europe , Celtic have had no problem scoring goals with Kuhn Jota Idah Maeda since kyogo’s move and i reckon would score a lot more if we had a decent midfielder in the mould of scott brown to boss the the middle of the park especially when we play out from the back and facing a high press would give us a different option , engles is too young on his own to handle that pressure , there will be lots of other options and additions but for me the midfield is one where we fall down , none of the present 5 offer what browne did .

Editor: There was more than one striker available in January. Rennes, Union Berlin and Atlanta have been able to buy first team players from Celtic in recent January transfer windows. If a club has ambition and want to make a January signing they do it, if you are complacent with the Balance Sheet as a priority you share hard luck stories.

If Rodgers gets his target in the summer shaving 4 million off the asking price and spending those monies on other targets , Miller for one , winning the treble , gone a decent realistic distance in the C L , I think he’ll have played a blinder , i am not defending the biscuit tin mentality in any way but i’m minded to think fools and their money as they say , looking forward to the summer signings already and not rushed in to a ransom holding january buy .
Joe , i respect your opinion totally , it’s just i view it differently

playing out from the back should be an option not a necessity and to be honest it gives me palpitations . their third goal came from a punt up the park and with maeda up front we should try it more often. agree with the midfield being too lightweight .

Requirements should be in place months ago.

    2 Full backs
    2 Centre Half’s
    3 Midfielders ( Extra strong)
    2 ) Strikers..

Just look at that Bench on Sunday..
Reminds me of the early 1990’s..

You Can NEVER have enough better players.. Prove is in Results..
