The Daily Record has provided Peter Grant with the space to trash their cherished #title55 myth.

Within a month Celtic are likely to be champions of Scotland for a 55th time, a number of no significance anywhere else in the sporting world.

50 is certainly a landmark as is 60 but only to the Gullible & Deluded does 55 mean anything.

After the devastating news of 2012 when the Record plastered RIP RFC on its front page legacy media outlets feared that their shelf-life would be further reduced without their beloved O** F***.

Within a month liquidation hadn’t happened, every contortion possible was called in, when the new club reached the top division in 2016 the media messengers jumped on board the #goingfor55 bandwagon. An incredible achievement for a club founded by Charles Green, Mike Ashley and Ally McCoist.

Eventually with their toxic supporters locked out of Ibrox a freaky title was won, the number 1 was changed to 55 and everyone was happy that Selik had been halted.

Now with fans back inside stadiums Celtic are on the brink of winning their fourth successive title, for sarcastic purposes some fans are reviving the 55 chat but Grant knows the real story.

The former Celtic midfielder told the Record:

The difference is, I’ve never heard Celtic supporters saying, ‘That’s us got 53 titles or whatever’. They’ve never ever spoken like that. It’s about winning the next one. When you went into the dressing room, it was about what you did next.

You lived in the history. The history is there for everybody, the club’s built on that foundation. It was never brought up on numbers. It was about always winning the next one. Even if you’re the champions, you’re champions for six weeks because the season starts again. It wasn’t us saying, ‘That’s us matched 55′. It never ever bothered us.

You have to look after your own house and Celtic have always done that. Maybe that’s the difference, we don’t get carried away saying ’55’. It’s just about making sure you win it, then go again and try to win the next one. Never on numbers.

For years the Record was also happy to carry the lie of The World’s Most Successful Football Club, a phrase that hasn’t been touched since December.

Print sales of the Daily Record are still hovering just above 40,000 but April and May are expected to see significant falls in daily sales.

he could have went further by trashing the same club 55 lie. there is no 55 to match in the first place . if anything he is giving credibility to this nonsense by not reminding them of the facts of 2012 which no one in the media ex celts included dare mention.

  • Steven R says:

“Going for 55” now means that they’re heading for a bus to take them into the town centre. That’s why we don’t hear the mentals mention it as often – if ever, nowadays. That number, to them, is a myth – just like the “same club, timmy!” nonsense.
