Combined daily sales of The Herald and The Scotsman averaged out at 15,848 per day during 2024.

The so called quality end of the Scottish newspaper market has taken a hammering for their pro-unionist editorials while a younger audience just laugh at the thought of wasting money for a printed version of yesterday’s news explaining the brilliance of Britannia while scoffing at any Scottish innovations and achievements.

Over the course of 2024 daily sales of the Herald dipped to 9,952 with The Scotsman at 5,896. The Herald’s year on year drop was 12.4% with the Scotsman falling at 14.6%.

It can only be a vanity project to continue chopping down trees to publish in such small numbers for distribution across a few garages and supermarkets.

Back in the early 90s the Herald on Friday was selling 120,000 copies thanks to an extensive Recruitment section at a time when James Traynor was the Chief Sports Writer before he discovered a taste for the finest red meat on jollies to Jersey.

With the declining readership comes a loss of advertising revenue with the cycle completed by increasing cover prices.

Anyone buying The Herald this morning with pay out £2.60 while Scotsman readers pay the same price.

This morning readers of both titles can get the feel-good froth of the Ibrox fakeover which will completed at the end of May. Absolutely Fletch.

Newsquest, publishers of The Herald have invested heavily in Digital productions but have bizarrely chosen Jonny McFarlane to head up a variety of titles including The Celtic Way.

Apparently subscriptions are the future and a rip-roaring success,  for £4 you can get four months of The Celtic Way with content from reporters like Ewan Paton who broke the news on the incredible Malik Tillman loan deal from Bayern Munich.

Now back to the share issue again, the dafties in the klan support will all renew their season books,at which point the money is in klub and the fans can do jackshit about it.
And that’s when the deal will collapse and the klan fans are back to square one once again, with the job done by Jackass Jackson and his buddies.BOOM!

Many years ago, I wrote an article for a very well known Celtic blog called…Let’s drink a toast to the Laptop Loyal…and in it I said we should thank these people for hiding the truth from The Peepul…and for feeding them moonbeams and bullshit…Thankfully nothing has changed…and so I raise my glass to them…again !!…Cheers guys.

When you read about the new klub from ibrox,it’s almost as good as a car boot sale.

    I still don’t get it.

Since 2011/12, it’s seemed fairly obvious that Scottish newspaper sales have been further impacted by their non-reporting of all negative things around ibrox.

IF one Scottish paper had decided to print the unvarnished truth, then it ‘could’ have helped their sales? And by steadying their sales decline, they would be better positioned to acquire subscribers to their digital offering?

The only paper I would currently consider paying a subscription for is ‘The Guardian’, and it’s specifically for its footy coverage. They do have decent writers and they do occasionally produce excellent, in depth articles.

What could The DR, ET, etc. offer digitally – which is any better than the worthless nonsense content which they currently produce on their papers?
[I only read the Scottish papers for the Comments! 🙂 ]

Editor: The majority of newspaper buyers were Rangers fans, no publisher is going to publish bad news to upset and sadden their readers. Feeding them porkies has slowed down their decline. With so much free online Celtic content not many many would pay for legacy coverage even if they decided to tell the truth and drop out of the Ibrox news cycle.

Editor – Two clowns* on ma street buy them every day…

      Celtic supporters ? as well…

Well – They are when they have The Scummy’s in their hands for sure…

I challenged them about their practice and being Celtic supporters buying and keeping alive hateful anti Celtic publications and they said it ‘was something to do’ (Reading The Scummy’s I presume)…

All I can say is – Dearie Dearie Me !

Quick question …after washing your Mork and Mindy’s..would you buff them up using a Herald or Scotsman Kharsi roll ? I have a sneaky one that your answer would be the same as mine !
